As Mat had mentioned a few times, Mat couldn't cook with modern technology. But roasting things over a fire?

That, he could do.

So there he was, bundled in a few layers, roasting a few rabbits over the fire and feeling more homesick than he was willing to admit.

"A few people I've talked to have already gone out in this," Jonas commented. "I don't know how they could even manage, it looks so bad."

"They aren't wimps like us?" Tara suggested lightly. "Or -- maybe there was someone they had to see, you know?"

"I don't consider myself a wimp--" Well. "Well, yes I do but I can't see anyone wanting to go out in this for anything other than an emergency."

Tara looked mildly alarmed. "Oh, I wasn't trying to insult you. Or anything. Just -- agreeing about the 'only in an emergency' thing, I guess."

"I didn't think you were, I promise," Jonas assured her. "I am a bit of a wimp, I know. I don't know how to deal with unfamiliar situations at all."

"Neither do I," Tara admitted. "I get all nervous and stuttery and -- it's hard. I just kind of watch until I don't think I can goof anything up."

"We're similar, then," he shared, nodding. "I tend to stand back and watch to try and figure out what's going on. Or I ask a lot of questions and hope I'm not bothering whomever I'm asking. It's gotten better because this place is...easy to adjust to but I'm still like that."

"You don't get nervous about asking questions?" Tara asked. "I always do. Or I feel like I'm -- that thing you said about bothering people."

"I do but I've found that it's the only way to understand some things," Jonas said. "If they don't answer, I know I've asked the wrong person. So far, most people have been willing to answer."
