5th Floor Common Room, Monday Early Evening

Really, she ought to be asleep despite the ridiculously early hour. A weekend spent with little sleep and using loads of energy meant by all rights that she should be dead to the world at the moment. Ino had spent about an hour after her last class staring up at the ceiling before giving that idea up for a lost cause and wandered out to the common room to see what she could find that was entertaining enough to keep her from getting bored.

Normally Ino wasn't much of one for movies, but poking around turned up The Continuous Tale and it looked interesting enough for her to stare at while she tried to convince herself to unwind enough to actually sleep. Score!

That decided on, she made popcorn (because if she was going to do this movie thing, she was going to do it right) and curled up on the couch, hitting play. And, okay, maybe snuggle into a blanket as well. That counted as part of the whole movie thing, right? Right?

It totally did. She could even be convinced to share, if asked nicely.

Roy walked into the room, said, "Yo," to the occupants, and headed for the fridge without pausing. He came back holding a bag of frozen peas to his right shoulder with his left hand. Ahhhh. He carefully settled into a chair and asked, "Oh, hey, what are we watching?"

[intraspective]

"The Continuous Tale!" Ino chirped. "Which is apparently ancient history to some people but I ain't never seen it so we're watching it. Hi!"

Also, Ino had been here first and had the remote.

"I haven't seen it, either," Roy admitted. "Heard of it, but I didn't exactly watch a lot of movies as a kid. Hi back!"

[intraspective]

"I don't normally watch many," she answered lightly. "But I'm too tired and can't focus on anything I'd normally do, so this seemed like a good idea and the cover looked interesting."

There'd been a fuzzy flying thing on the cover, okay?

"Do you have name?" Ino asked, tilting her head back to get a better look at him. "And did you want some popcorn?"

"I do!" Roy confirmed. "It's Roy. What's yours? And I would love some popcorn."

[intraspective]

"Mine's Ino," she answered, getting up to bring the popcorn over. "And I'd say nice to meet you, and it is, but Martha-san from the clinic might fire me if I didn't ask what's up with your shoulder first."

"Oh, you work at the clinic?" Roy asked. "That's cool. There's nothing really wrong with it, I just overworked it, is all." He did not shrug because that would be a bad idea. "It'll be sore for a few days. Remind me not to be stupid again, right?"

"Are you all right?" Helen asked curiously.

"What? Oh," It took him a second to realize what she was talking about. Duh. "Yeah, I'm fine, I just overworked my shoulder this weekend," he said. "Hi, I'm Roy. I don't think we've met."

"Fighting the... whatever they were?" she asked sympathetically. "For small things they were rather fierce and determined. And plentiful."

She blushed a little. "Sorry, no, I don't believe we have. I am Helen."

"Yeah, it's the 'plentiful' that got me," Roy said ruefully. So many targets, so little time. "It's nice to meet you, Helen."

"It's nice to meet you as well," she said with a shy smile. "I managed to dispatch a number of them, but I do hope they don't return any time soon."

"Well, they seem to be gone today," Roy said. "Maybe we scared 'em off. Or they went back to wherever they came from."

"Are you injured?" Alice asked. "Or are you attempting to absorb the peas through your shoulder?"

It would be a rather intriguing way of getting nutrition.

Roy blinked at her and said. "No, I just overworked my shoulder. Not really injured, it's just sore."

"And now, I confess I'm terribly let down," she sighed. "I've never met anyone who ate through their shoulders, and I was hoping you would be the first."

It was anyone's guess whether she was in earnest.

Roy laughed. "I'm sure that if you stick around here long enough you'll find someone," he said. "Sorry to disappoint."

"You're forgiven," she said, as graciously as a Queen might. "I've been here for well over a year, but I've yet to meet any shoulder-eaters. One wonders if they would breathe through their elbows, as well. And eyes on their fingers, perhaps?"

The overall mental picture was beginning to be quite disturbing, but Roy was willing to roll with it. "But then what are their heads for?"

When Bruce noticed the peas on Roy's arm, he gave a nod and asked, "How's it holding up?"

"Little sore," Roy said manfully. "Not bad. How's it going?" Roy suspected Bruce would not appreciate Roy asking after his nocturnal rooftop activities by asking how the bolas worked out in public.

"I guess I can't complain. Everyone survived the weekend, right?" Bruce said.

He was pretty sure Roy wasn't going to hear him speaking so casually very often. But he was more than a little curious to see if it would throw him at all.

"As far as I know," Roy said without batting an eye. "I figure we'd have heard by now if anyone died or went missing."

"In that case, I'd say it's going very well," Bruce said. "Congratulations, Roy, we made it through our first invasion."

"Does that mean we're not new any more?" Roy asked. "'Cause I gotta tell you, man, I still feel new."
