Really, it was way too fucking nice to smoke in his room tonight. And honestly, he'd been spending so much time in there, trying to let his bruises heal that he was sick of it. He felt fine, it was warm and he hadn't been up to the roof in awhile. It was the perfect day to do that.

So, after pushing onto the roof, he had a cigarette lit almost immediately before hopping up on the roof's ledge and laying flat on his back, letting the setting sun warm his face. He almost felt relaxed. It'd been a shitty month so far save for a few things but sometimes it was just nice to get some fresh air.

Cigarette smoke notwithstanding.

"Of course I am." Okay, he was a little surprised she'd just come out and told him. "Well, now I feel better. All the sexual tension I left you with is gone and you can go back to being less uptight."

He was still gonna be a jerk, oh yes.

Rose rolled her eyes at him and smacked his foot lightly. "Yeah, Alex, I'm like CRAZY uptight. You knew it."

"Hey, when that sexual tension starts eating at you, it makes you a little defensive," he taunted.

"Just because you can't handle more than a day or two without sex doesn't mean I'm that wimpy," she shot back.

"I don't have to handle a day or two without sex." Okay, he did, but Rose didn't need to know that. "Doesn't mean you're not wimpy either."

Rose snorted, confident in many things. Including that fact she wasn't wimpy. "Yeah, like you say, never a day I'm not training. I'm TOTALLY a wuss."

"You're all soft edges, Rose," he said, going right along with her even if she was being sarcastic. Sometimes, that worked.

"And you're a fuzzy teddy bear, Alex," she shot back, glaring a little.

"Defensive," Alex said, smirking. "Just means I hit a nerve and was right in there somewhere."

"Or it means you're an idiot who couldn't hit a nerve if there was a whole bunch of them right in front of you," Rose retorted.

Alex paused and then shook his head. "No, I'm pretty sure I'm right and you're still just being defensive. It's all right, I'm used to it."

"Because you're right so much it's a self-defense thing?" Rose taunted.

"I'm just always right," Alex said, going for that instead of rising to her baiting. "It's just a fact, Rose. I'm sure you'll learn at some point. Everyone does."

"Not likely," she scoffed. "You've been right like three times ever. That's not a record or anything."

"Jealous," he decided, shrugging lightly. "And here I thought getting laid would make you see the light."

"I know it's shocking to you, Alex," Rose said mock-gently. "But I've gotten laid before."

"Yeah, I've been there a few times," Alex reminded her, smirking. "And don't even play like you forgot me. You didn't."

"Yeah, but you couldn't forget me either so you're totally even there," she said with a grin.

"I don't forget the good ones," he told her. "Aww, maybe someday, we'll get to do it again."

Probably not since he'd gotten attached to one person and she'd gotten attached to another. Still, thought that counts.

"Nothing like keeping your options open," she teased.

Then took a moment to add, a little uncertainly. "Not that you, like, would, but don't mention this thing to anyone?"

"I don't share things people tell me," Alex promised seriously. "Not my place. I know I wouldn't want people sharing things I've told them."

She reached to nudge his foot lightly. "Thanks. And yeah, totally."

"Well, you know," he said and nudged back. "I'd like to keep the friends I actually have."

"Weird that," she teased, smiling lightly at him. "Guess that means you can't get rid of me when I leave here then and you got another year left."

"Sure you won't be too busy with your zombie cows in Montana?" he wondered.
