Sixth Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening [WARREN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!]

Through some miracle of timing, Bobby had actually managed to get everything for Warren's party set up earlier before heading off to Karla's.

Now, though, it was Warren's turn. Hopefully people would still have room for even more food after a BBQ, because the amount of food two brilliant bakers plus one person with access to a very good catering service was impressive.

At least people could work all those excess calories off in the ball pit?

[OOC: up early for slowplay, yay!]

Chocolate and espresso all in one? There was totally no way to go wrong!

"The best of both worlds," Warren grinned. "These won't last long, thank you."

"Oh good," Dru smiled. "I had this vague fear that you might be one of those weird people that didn't like coffee."

"You don't want to see me in the mornings before I've had my Americano," Warren confided, working the top from the jar and offering it her way, in case she wanted some before he could devour the contents. "It isn't a pretty sight."

Something akin to a giant, deranged pigeon, actually.

Never one to turn down chocolate, Dru picked a few from the jar and popped one into her mouth. "I'm the same. Except in my case, it's a regular coffee with milk and a lot of sugar."

Savoring the taste of the candy, she gave a rueful smile. "I used to pop these when I was on an all night hunt with my dad. It was quick and easy energy, but the crash could be brutal if you had too many."

"Well, yeah. You've got to contend with the caffeine and the sugar," Warren reasoned. "Double the artificial rush means twice the trip back down again."

A pause, and then a curious smile. "All-night hunt?"

"You know all those stories you hear about poltergeists, ghosts, werewolves and all the other things that go bump in the night?" Dru asked. "Well, where I'm from, they're real. Dad was a hunter, taking out anything that started causing problems. I've got a little mojo of my own, so I would help him."

"Oh, yeah?" Warren quirked a bit of a smile as he mulled over that one. "It sounds like an interesting way to spend your time, huh?"

Coming from a guy with wings, he really wasn't in any place to think this was weird, was he?

She shrugged a shoulder. "It was what we did. I never really thought about doing any different. I suppose in a way, it did help prepare me for this place."

"And here I thought nothing could prepare a person for this place," Warren replied, with an awkward shift of weight that suggested that he was well-aware that he was one of those things around here that some people probably had to get their heads around in the first place. "Do you miss it?"

Re: Presents!

Catching onto Warren's awkward shift, Dru tried to explain. "The Real World, that's what I was taught to call the supernatural world, let me know there was more to life then the suburbs, I guess. Yeah, there's weird stuff. But there's also stuff that's pretty damn cool." In Dru's mind, Warren's wings were definitely one of them.

She looked away for a moment, pondering his question. "I do miss it. I miss my dad. But," she sighed, "I'm here, and there's cool people. So I suppose I'll make the best of it."

Okay, that was better. Warren relaxed, and then he was smiling again.

"The people are easily the best part," he decided. "It didn't take long to catch on to that, once I got here."

"Yeah, I'm finding that out," she agreed. "We moved around a lot, so I never bothered making friends. It's nice having people you can count on. Dinah and Kennedy...I owe them big."

"I only just met Kennedy today," Warren noted. "And I don't know Dinah all that well, either. But they seem like good people. I mean... most people around here seem to be."

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Kennedy's feisty. And Dinah? Well she's a bit more bouncy then should actually be legal," Dru replied with a grin. "But they're good people. I was in a jam. They helped me out and pretty much saved my life. And I don't mean in any metaphor sense. If they weren't there, I'd be dead. So like I said, I owe them big. I'll miss Dinah when she leaves."

"She's one of the graduating seniors, huh?" Warren nodded a bit. "I guess I'm lucky. I don't know too many of the people who are leaving soon. I don't think."

He hoped not. Not that making friends was difficult around here. But... He'd miss people.

"She's one of them. My roommate's another. Fortunately Kennedy and I each have another year," she said. "What about you? When do you graduate?"

"Not for another couple of years," Warren replied, shrugging. "This is that magical time of year where I stop being a sophomore and start being a junior, I guess. I'm still getting the hang of this public school thing. You?"

Re: Presents!

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose after the weekend and graduation I'm officially a senior," Dru shrugged. "It doesn't seem like it makes much difference here the way they mix up the classes."

"Is public school all that different from what you were used to?"

Ooh, awkward question.

"Way, way different from what I was used to," Warren agreed. "I was kind of... home-schooled, you could say. The occasional tutor, and stuff like that. If I couldn't learn it at home, it probably wasn't really worth learning."

He didn't much believe that.

"Ahh, yeah. I can see where that would be a big change. Hopefully for the better." She wondered briefly why he was homeschooled, but hearing an echo of her Gran in her head, decided to not be rude and ask.
