Sixth Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening [WARREN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!]

Through some miracle of timing, Bobby had actually managed to get everything for Warren's party set up earlier before heading off to Karla's.

Now, though, it was Warren's turn. Hopefully people would still have room for even more food after a BBQ, because the amount of food two brilliant bakers plus one person with access to a very good catering service was impressive.

At least people could work all those excess calories off in the ball pit?

[OOC: up early for slowplay, yay!]

Yeah, rubbing in the 'my life sucked less than yours' thing without realization or malicious intent was sort of a skill of Kennedy's. Sorry about that, Warren.

"Pssh, no," Kennedy laughed. "Well. Mom owned a couple of galleries in Chelsea for a while? It was more a thing of 'don't run in the drawing room, Kennedy, can you not engage in horseplay in the main wing, blah blah.' No fun, you know?"

"Oooh." Warren gave a slow nod that suggested that he knew exactly what she was talking about, then. "'Warren, how many times have I told you not to run by those windows? They were custom-built and I won't tolerate a tarp where that wall goes until we can get it replaced.'"

... Nevermind that the wall in question was about fifty stories up.

"'Kennedy, you are not allowed to bring your crossbow anywhere near the Matisse in the hallway..." She trailed off and glanced at him, blinked in surprise, and laughed. "Holy crap, you totally know where I'm coming from on this, don't you?"

"Growing up in a household where you can afford all of the toys in the world," Warren mused, "and you're not allowed to play with a single one of them?"

Oh yeah. He'd so been there.

Kennedy's jaw went a little slack. "Hi, were we separated at birth or something? I mean, not that it stopped me from trying anyway, but yeah."

"Of course you tried," Warren laughed, shaking his head. "Because if you didn't try, then the alternative was to sit quietly in the corner, reading the latest trends in the stock market."

Which, Warren supposed he didn't need to add, was boring as hell.

"Getting into trouble was more fun."

"Isn't it always?" Kennedy asked, thoroughly uninclined to be ashamed of herself. "I kinda lucked out when the whole possible destiny thing got dumped on me, but until then? Yeah, I was right there with you in the corner with the Wall Street Journal. Fun times."

"Possible destiny, huh?" Warren's smile went a little twitchy for a fraction of a second, there. "And here all I got was a wingspan."

Which would have been more awesome, if he was allowed to make use of it.

"Which wasn't so bad, in retrospect. It got me out of there."

"Possible, as in hundred-thousand-to-one odds," Kennedy explained, snorting. "Kind of a lot less real than your wings, there," and she did actually sound a touch envious.

She wasn't a fan of hypotheticals.

"Not that Dad was really thrilled either way. So I get that, kinda. And now we're here, and it's cool, right?"

"We're here," Warren agreed, "and it's cool. And that really has got to be a Dad thing."

Hell, his was so not thrilled that he'd spent the last ten years looking for a way to get rid of those wings.

"Now, if we look into stocks, it's on our own terms."

How exciting.
