Third Floor Common Room [Wednesday evening]

Jaime had mostly nursed his headache from Monday into something reasonable, so now he was ready to do something. Anything, really. As long as it didn't involve lying around in his room.

Fortunately, there was a common room. And Jaime knew how to bake. At the moment he was whipping up three different cookie recipes at once. Not that he was planning to eat three entire batches of cookies on his own, of course. But this was Fandom, and he was in a common room.

He figured he'd have help.

"I'd try if you were really sick." She chewed the last of the cookie and reached for another. "And I don't want you to get sick."

"But you were complaining that I never get sick," Jaime pointed out, just to tease her.

[heromaniac]

"You don't! And I was saying that I don't get to help you with stuff."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Tom-ay-to, tom-ah-to," Jaime sing-songed in amusement.

[heromaniac]

"What do tomatoes have to do with it?" She was going to finish all of her cookies just standing there. Hopefully he had lots more.

Luckily for her, he did.

"I guess that's an American joke you don't have in Japan, huh?"

[heromaniac]

"We have tomatoes, of course," she replied, tilting her head at him. "But what's the joke?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"Pronunciation. Some people pronounce the word one way, others another way. It's like saying that it's the same thing, but a different way of looking at it." Sort of.

[heromaniac]

"Ah! And no matter how you pronounce it, it's still a tomato?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"Exactly!" He must have been good at explaining this stuff!

[heromaniac]

"I see!" She nodded and pounded her fist into her palm. She totally understood! "So you're allergic to tomatoes!"

[weldedtomyspine]

Jaime blinked.

"What?"

[heromaniac]

"You're allergic to tomatoes!" She grinned and moved to look over the available cookies for one that was purely chocolate chip. "That's why you brought it up when I said you never get sick, right?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"No," Jaime facepalmed.

[heromaniac]

"So you're not allergic? Confusing." She sighed and bit into her cookie. Ah! "Right! Next time I ask for help, you have to bring your homework or something and we can do it together. That way, even if I can't help, it will feel like it, okay?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"If you insist," Jaime decided, sounding just a bit doubtful.

[heromaniac]

"Whaaaaat? Are you going to say I can't even do that much."

[weldedtomyspine]

"No!" Jaime answered immediately, sounding worried. "I didn't mean that at all!"

He didn't! And he didn't want her thinking that, either.

[heromaniac]

She looked at him for a moment, then shrugged. "Fine. Whatever. If you don't want to, you don't have to." If he thought it was a bad idea, she wasn't going to force him. She just wouldn't ask for his help until she could figure out something for returns.

"Hey, I'd love to have your help!" Jaime said quickly, frowning.

Had he said something to upset her?

[heromaniac]

Not upset, just... okay, maybe a bit.

"Nnnn." She shook her head and popped the last of a cookie in her mouth, trying to act casual. "It's okay. Some people like to study on their own. I understand. I just thought it was a good plan. You know, like pretend it's a study session instead of a help Momoko session?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"And I'm saying that sounds like a good plan!"

Never mind what he'd said earlier.

[heromaniac]

No.

"Jaime." She chuckled. "You were totally not thinking it was a good plan; I could tell. It's okay to say no." Unless she really wanted something, of course.

[weldedtomyspine]

"Why wouldn't it be a good plan?" Jaime asked. "I mean... we have fun when we hang out. I bet that'd still be true even if we were studying."

Dig, Jaime. Dig!

"You were the one who didn't want to," she reminded him. "I thought it was a good plan."
