Main Campfire, Monday Evening

Okay, so today had admittedly not been the most productive day that Zack had ever had. He'd skipped work today after having the meaning of Memorial Day explained to him by the gym teacher, and then he'd handwavily headed down to the graveyard. Angeal wasn't there, no, but it was about as close as he was going to get, and the time to just sit quietly and pay his respects had been good for him.

Now, to wrap the day up, he'd grabbed some marshmallows, bars of chocolate, and graham crackers, and he was working on getting a decently sized fire going.

Okay, so Zack's idea of a 'decently sized' fire was possibly not what most sane people considered to be one. He'd heaped the logs on kind of ridiculously high, and then he'd lit that sucker with a Fira spell. The result had singed his eyebrows a little at first, but hey, all the better for making s'mores, right?

... Once he blew out the marshmallow fire.

Bruce walked up to the main campfire and quirked an eyebrow. "Is that fire safe?" he asked.

"Sure it is," Zack insisted, smiling and holding out the bag of marshmallows Bruce's way, in case he wanted one. "If it gets away, I have ice spells handy. It won't get far."

... That was possibly not as reassuring as Zack thought it was, huh?

Bruce shook his head at the marshmallows. He rarely ate things that were pure sugar. "As long as you're prepared, I suppose. How effective are your ice spells?"

Ino had, like, a sixth sense for finding Zack!

(Or, really, she'd just happened to be crossing the campground.)

But was it really a surprise that she immediately detoured to go and talk to him? No? Well, that was alright.

"You overkilled on the fire," she noted, sidling up to him and smiling. "Hi, you."

"Hi, you." Zack smiled and leaned sideways to bump her shoulder with his arm. "This is overkill, really? I just wanted to make certain it didn't die down too quickly. But I can leave it to simmer some, if you think this is too much."

He'd give it a couple of minutes before throwing another log on! This fire was way too cool.

"I didn't say it was bad overkill," she protested mildly and mostly to just protest. "You can leave it, this way."

"I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks the fire is too big," Bruce said.

She had to grin ruefully at that.

"It is," Ino admitted, "but well, it's not like it's hurting anyone, yeah?"

"Holy everything, that's a big fire," Sookie said, eyes wide as she approached. "Did you bring a lot of marshmallows to justify it?"

"Well, of course," Zack laughed, picking up the bag and lobbing it lightly her way. "There's no point to a campfire this size if you can't roast marshmallows on it, right? There are sticks too. And chocolate and crackers, if you're in a s'mores mood."

"Who's not in a s'mores mood?" Sookie wondered, catching the bag neatly. "Who hears about graham crackers and chocolate and marshmallows and are like 'Eh, I'd rather not have that kind of joy in my life today'?"

Bruce felt more justified in his initial concerns with every new person. "It's okay. He knows ice spells in case it gets too far out of control."

It was possible that Bruce didn't sound entirely convinced as he said that.

"Oh, good. I feel better," Sookie said, smiling. "I'm sure it won't burn down the campground, anyway."

"Trying to burn down the island?" Ben teased as he wandered over.

"Nah," Zack laughed. "Just the cabins. Think I've got a good start on it, yet?"

Yeah, he was already reaching for the marshmallow bag. Zack was at least a very hospitable arsonist, if nothing else.

Bruce hadn't met this boy before. He disliked finding people he hadn't met by this point in the semester. "We seem to be safe," Bruce deadpanned. "At least that's what everyone is claiming."

That... was a very large fire.

Blackagar shot him a concerned look over his sudden lack of eyebrows, nodding toward the probable cause. If that was supposed to happen to everyone, it might be best to warn anyone of the female persuasion off before he became less of a man because of their anger.

Awww, it was just a bit of a singe, honest. And eyebrows totally grew back anyhow!

"It's okay! Honest! I'm not going to let it get out of control, I promise."

Because Zack was cocky and stupid. Yes.

"Marshmallow?"

Also, he had weird priorities.

"It's okay," Sookie said, doing a quick scan to tell that this was Blackagar and not Dan. "He's apparently got it under control. Bruce is gonna call the fire department at the first sign of trouble!"

That was...not all that reassuring, but she was trying.

"Good evening, Blackagar," Bruce greeted. "Has Fandom been treating you well so far?"

Well, if that fire got really out of control, at least Bobby stopping by meant he'd have some help? Although really, Zack's ice spells would probably do just fine.

"Hey, man," he said, flopping down into a seat that was as far from the fire as possible while still giving off the impression of wanting to be social.

"Hey, bro," Zack replied, waving Bobby's way before tossing him the marshmallow bag.

It was a communal marshmallow bag, by now.

"How goes it?"

And Sookie, who had been sitting closer to the fire, ambled over. "You can't make s'mores back here," she noted woefully.

"Hi Zack!" Robin called. He didn't think it a good idea to get too close to the fire. "Trying to signal someone?"

"Just anyone who wants to hang out by the fire," Zack replied, nodding his hello. "Marshmallow?"
