Locust campfire- Thursday night

This was really weird.

Jaina didn't have the anxious, jittery feeling in the cabins that she used to. Some closure and time had done some good there. No, the weird part was that she was still in the cabins again. But it was this or singing insects and she'd already screamed at them twice before the announcement, so she figured she was fighting a losing battle there. It was just very strange going back to something she'd thought was fun at sixteen and then circumstances had sort of ruined the fun part.

Still, she could deal with it, and it wasn't going to stop her from getting a fire going and bringing out the makings for s'mores when she was pretty sure it wasn't going to be raining. When you'd been deprived of chocolate as long as she had, you found reasons to have it.

[I've been wanting to play all daaaay. You should play with me. *nods*]

Back from the bar, John couldn't say no to a campfire. "Look at this. Me, you, and a campfire of our best friends." Or something like that. John knew she was old, but he didn't think she looked bad in the glow of the fire. He also wasn't sitting down straight away in case it was weird for her.

"Well, I've had a lot of years to get used to that concept," he returned. "Is it like old times where a guy's gotta ask for the old Care Bear stare?" Certain things could never be forgotten. Thank pictures and video.

He laughed, but hugged back cautiously. Yes, he expected her to hit him during. "Just avoid the face!"

Okay, fine, she got a real hug when she hugged him tightly. "Don't make me regret stopping at your fire," John teased, letting her go and taking a seat.

"It's good to be seen," he replied. "So, how 'bout the bugs? I half expected you to be singing along with them. And thumping your chest."

"What?" John laughed. "Of course I brought it up. When I heard that music in my apartment, I figured you'd planted something since I wondered about your need for a hip replacement on radio."

Remember, their first meeting ever had involved her threatening to blare bad music through his room at odd hours of the night and day.

Imagine the jokes if John knew she had a pop star in her head!

"Now I'm really glad we're not in the same cabin," he said. "And remember who you're related to. Limb loss is in your blood."

"I'm always gonna expect it now," John decided, feeling quite sure of himself. "So, did you have a nice war while you were gone? Glad to be back in the land of gremlins?"

"If you're blaming me, you're just encouraging me to find footage," John pointed out. And really, it was kind of sad that he knew there would've been a war while she was gone, for however long. It was just how they rolled.

"I meant when it happens." When they were dating, it had been easy enough, but now he'd just track down the visuals of her gremlin bites.

"Bribing me with what?" John asked, totally curious here.

John put up his hands, warding off what would come from that. "Oh no, I don't suggest bribes. That way lies to trouble."

"I can dig some chocolate," John figured, moving to sit over by her. "Cooking over an open flame makes the small talk easier, after all."
