Second Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

[glacial_queen]

Cream? Check.

Milk? Check.

As many different types of chocolate as they could find? Check.

Enough other various toppings and ingredients to open up a grocery store? Check and double-check.

The second floor common room's kitchen had been transformed. Bowls filled with fruit, candy, chocolate pieces, and other various ingredients were strewn about the counter. Tiny bottles filled with lemon, vanilla, and peppermint extracts lined up like soldiers awaiting deployment. Every available surface in the fridge was filled with cartons of heavy cream and gallons of milk.

In the center of it all, whirring in self-important splendor, was the ice cream maker Ben had gotten for his birthday.

"This," Karla breathed as she glanced around the kitchen one more time, "is going to be epic."

"Nothing's caught fire yet," Ben said with an easy smile. "I think that's an improvement over her normal track record."

"You know, I think I'll stick around and make sure nothing catches fire at all. I know you're not even turning on the oven," she said with a note of warning, "but I'm going to hang out just to be safe."

"Yeah, a lot of the recipes seemed to call for things to get heated up before turning them into ice cream," Ben said with a frown. "That seems kind of counter-intuitive."

"Don't touch the stove," Sookie advised. "Just say no. For safety."

Ben grinned. "I'm not as hopeless as Karla, I promise."

That's not really much of a hurdle to leap.

"You better not be as hopeless as my boyfriend, either. I ended up with peanut butter in my hair when I tried to teach Bobby to cook," she replied. "But the fact that you agreed to do anything in a kitchen with Karla doesn't speak all that well to your sanity, Ben."

He laughed. "My love of ice cream overrode my common sense," he admitted. "Do I even want to know how you ended up with peanut butter in your hair?"

"You know there's a place where you can just buy ice cream, right?" she asked. "Bobby and I tried to make peanut butter cookies. The kitchen didn't fare too well, either."

"Yeah, they know me by name down there," Ben replied with a little laugh. "Karla got me the ice cream machine for my birthday. I wanted to try it out."

"As long as you don't make me try it," Sookie said, frowning.

"You have no sense of adventure," he teased.

"I have entirely too much adventure already," Sookie replied.

"But there are entire shows dedicated to living life on the food edge!" Ben wheedled.

Because clearly Man v. Food was a really good idea. Everyone should try to eat a pizza the size of their head.

"Mm, those are for people not me. I'll take adventure not in my food," Sookie decided, shaking her head. "Did you know there's seaweed ice cream?"

He wrinkled his nose up. "Ew. Why would you do that to poor innocent ice cream?"
