Second Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

Cream? Check.

Milk? Check.

As many different types of chocolate as they could find? Check.

Enough other various toppings and ingredients to open up a grocery store? Check and double-check.

The second floor common room's kitchen had been transformed. Bowls filled with fruit, candy, chocolate pieces, and other various ingredients were strewn about the counter. Tiny bottles filled with lemon, vanilla, and peppermint extracts lined up like soldiers awaiting deployment. Every available surface in the fridge was filled with cartons of heavy cream and gallons of milk.

In the center of it all, whirring in self-important splendor, was the ice cream maker Ben had gotten for his birthday.

"This," Karla breathed as she glanced around the kitchen one more time, "is going to be epic."

"Chocolate Coffee Crunch ice cream!" Ben said proudly. "It's almost ready, too!"

"Did you make the ice cream?" Jason asked. "Like, from scratch?"

"Yes," Ben said. "Karla got me an ice cream maker for my birthday. This is the first time we're trying it out."

Run, Jason. Run.

Jason usually had good self-preservation skills, but Fandom had lulled him into a false sense of security. "That's a really nice birthday present. What's the crunch part?" he asked.

"Coffee beans," Ben said. "Like chocolate-covered espresso but cheaper!"

And nasty.

"And in ice cream form, which makes them even better than chocolate-covered beans." This might be why Alfred didn't let Jason into the kitchen very much.

"That's what I thought," Ben said, pleased that Jason also understood his vision.

"How much longer is the machine going to take?" Jason asked, peering at it. "You'd better keep that in a safe place so no one uses it without you." Because obviously people would be clamoring for Ben's ice cream.

"Yeah, it lives under my bed most of the time," Ben said. "You can never be too careful." He peered at the machine impatiently. "Five more minutes."

"I guess you have to wait for good things, huh?" Jason teased. "Maybe I can consider this a lesson in patience."

[momslilassassin]

"I'm going find a way to freeze things faster," Ben promised with a little glare at the machine. "This takes too long."

[dontvotemeout]

"What, are you going to start with colder ingredients or something?" Jason asked.

[momslilassassin]

"Or liquid nitrogen," Ben said, grinning.

[dontvotemeout]

"...not in the ice cream, right?" Even Jason knew better than that, this time at least.

[momslilassassin]

"Kind of on top of it, I think," Ben said. "I saw someone do it on a TV show."

Ben shouldn't be allowed to watch Iron Chef.

"Ooh," Jason said slowly. "Like dry ice, kind of? That could be cool." This might be why Bruce made the explosives for them both for the time being. "You know, no pun intended."
