Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday evening

After getting back from Colorado, Bruce got some dinner from Ching Tai. Unfortunately, they gave way too much food, so he set up in the common room. If people were hungry, they could take. He could have done that and gone to his room with his food, but he figured that would prevent him from seeing how other people were reacting to the gender switch. And really, his want to be left alone was easily overruled by his curiosity.

While he was in the common room, though, he wasn't touching the TV. It would end up stuck on the Style Network or something if he did. He could deal with being a girl, but that was asking too much.

"Maybe we can have a snowstorm," she grumbled. "Some kind of world-ending blizzard. I don't even care, any more. So are you usually a girl?"

"I'm usually a guy," Bruce said. "But I adjust quickly. I'm Bruce."

"George," she said, and it seemed more important than ever to specify, "As in, Georgia, as in, usually a girl."

"I was able to figure that part out thanks to your sunny disposition," Bruce said. "Your name is actually Georgia?"

"It is," she said, "but everyone calls me George. Except Daisy, but she just does that to be annoying."

"Who's Daisy?" Bruce asked. He was learning something about George, so he figured he might as well try to get more out of here.

"A ... friend?" George said. "Acquaintance? Someone from back home. We had to room together for a while."

'Friend' was the wrong word for someone you wanted to set on fire.

"I see," Bruce said. "Well, I have no interest in being annoying, so I'll stick to 'George.'"

"It's fine," she said. "It's not using 'Georgia' that makes her annoying, it's -- her, being annoying, and she does that, too, because she's annoying."

It made sense in her head, okay?

"I think I understand," Bruce said. "If somebody annoys you already, then anything they do differently from the norm has an extra sting to it."

"Maybe I just don't like her," George said. "I guess 'Bruce' doesn't really lend itself to nicknames, does it?"

"A couple people have tried 'Brucie' without getting maimed," Bruce admitted. "But that adds a syllable, so it doesn't seem to stick."

"I know someone who calls me 'Georgie-girl,'" George said, shaking her head. "I don't think length has anything to do with nicknames sticking. Kind of defeats the purpose, though."

"The key word there is 'someone.' I think most people prefer to use shorter names unless there's a very compelling reason," Bruce mused.
