Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday evening

After getting back from Colorado, Bruce got some dinner from Ching Tai. Unfortunately, they gave way too much food, so he set up in the common room. If people were hungry, they could take. He could have done that and gone to his room with his food, but he figured that would prevent him from seeing how other people were reacting to the gender switch. And really, his want to be left alone was easily overruled by his curiosity.

While he was in the common room, though, he wasn't touching the TV. It would end up stuck on the Style Network or something if he did. He could deal with being a girl, but that was asking too much.

"All the males changed one day and then a few weeks later, we females did," Karla said. "But at least we were all at Fandom, at the time. And Layla Miller--she just knew stuff--had a bunch of gender-appropriate clothing on the first-floor of the dorm."

"I could have used that this morning," Scully sighed, then rubbed at her chin. "Did you manage to shave? I'm thinking of giving it a miss. I don't need a cut face when this is all over. And underwear!"

Yes. Let's not go there.

"Ooooh no!" Karla said, shaking her head quickly. "No shaving. I will grow a full-on beard first. I'm not going near my face with a razor."

The last thing she needed was to discover Raven couldn't Heal amputated parts.

"Thank the Darkness, I had my clothes from last year still in my closet. So I am wearing those."

Don't ask what she had done before they arrived home, Scully. Just don't.

Don't ask. Really don't tell.

"How do guys manage all this?" she wondered aloud. "I never thought about it, but this body is so... bulky." And prone to weird subtextual commentary. Scully was not a fan.

"You could always ask your 'brother,'" Karla teased. "But no. Males' bodies are full of...surprises."

Someone might have been thinking back to her conversation with Ben this morning, yes.

Scully gave her a sharp look for that, then mildly said, "I do have an older brother Bill." Just... not the person that visited that weekend, no. "What gave it away?"

She examined her hands again, still finding details to obsess on. "These fingers don't type as well. Too big." ... No, she just wasn't used to their reach yet.

"His psychic scent," Karla said. "And yours. There wasn't the same commonality that you shared with your mother," she explained. "And, uhh..."

She wasn't sure if she should mention the other bit.

Scully's eyes narrowed, but seriously. If Mulder was going to be a jackass and show up with no warning again, she needed to know. "What?"

"Your psychic scent suggests feelings that aren't entirely...filial?" Karla said, trying to be delicate.

Scully stared, fighting the urge to pound her head into the counter. "That's not.. It's. He's not," she tried, then gave up, blowing out a breath. "Well, crap."

"Sorry?" Karla offered. "I didn't mean to pry. And it's not like I'm about to tell anyone."

"Thank you for that," Scully said on a sigh. She rubbed the bridge of her nose. "He's not interested in me like that." At least, not while she looked fifteen. Thoughts of Samantha, as well as a very definite preference for adults, tended to kill that vibe. "So it's not... he's a friend of the family. Of my aunt's." She was quiet a moment, and said, "He got bitten by a vampire that weekend."

Non sequitor, or not? You be the judge.

"Really?" Karla asked, instantly frowning. "Do you know which one?"

Karla didn't really have the best history with unexplained vampire bites.

"Jessica, the bartender at Caritas. Raven and I had a very stern talk with her about chomping on my 'brother' last week." Scully's expression turned even more sour for being on that face. "Who also didn't seem to buy the brother story."

What, was she obvious?

Wait. So 'Billy' had come to the island and then got bitten by the first non-student red-haired female he could find? Hmmmm...

"He was okay, though, right?" Karla asked. "And this Jessica really is a vampire?"

Funny how that worked, hunh?

"He was elated. Goofball." Scully rolled her eyes. "He always likes to find new exotic adventures. I had to bandage him up and give him fluids, and he thought he was bitten by Dracula, but he was fine. Jessica admitted everything after we questioned her, mostly because Raven was a trooper and told me when she was lying."

"That's good," Karla said with a sigh of relief. "The last thing we need is another unsolved vampire bite."

Karla was still recovering from the last one. Really.

"Wait, there was an unsolved bite? When was this?" Scully asked, worried. Did she have to warn every bloodsucker on the island? ~~Does Scully need to cut a bitch?~~

"Months ago," Karla explained. "And it was eventually solved, but not before an innocent person was accused. It got...messy. Eventually we found out the real culprit--who isn't anyone on this island, by the way--and everything got smoothed over."

"Oh," Scully said, relieved. "Good. I can't imagine how scary that was." She grimaced. "Is that when Raven encountered a vampire before? She told me about being bitten," she said, her voice dropping. "After I asked for her help. Then I told her she really didn't have to come along, but she wouldn't back out."

Karla nodded, though she wasn't going to offer any more details than she already had. "Yep. It was...pretty scary here for awhile. It brought back memories of the other-Fandom for a lot of us."

"Other-Fandom?" Scully queried. "Where people went when the scorpions and everything invaded?"

"Nooo..." Karla shook her head. "This was last summer, when I was still really new. There was an alternate dimension Fandom overrun with vampires. They needed help and some of us sorta ended up falling asleep here, while our Selves inhabited our bodies there. It was pretty unpleasant, all the way around."

"An entire world of vampires... I'd think so, yes." Good God. She never wanted to visit a world overrun with aliens; vampires, doubly so. "So it was astral projection? Of a sort?"

"Astral what?" Karla asked, confused.
