Main Campfire [evening]

As Rilla was practically fifteen right now, she felt quite grown-up enough to attempt to light the campfire by herself and managed without setting anything other than the kindling ablaze. In a long-ish skirt and multiple layers, this was a trickier business than you might imagine.

She settled herself onto a comfortable log, stared starry-eyed into the campfire (it reminded her of good times with her family on the shore when they burned all of the debris that washed up over the winter) and began singing a Scottish air from home.

Her voice was surprisingly good for someone who wasn't prone to singing in public, but around a campfire, such a thing was expected along with ghost stories and toasted bread.

She'd provide the bread if someone else had ghost stories.

[OOC: So very open!]

"What's that song?" Juliet asked, wandering out of her cabin to take a seat by the fire. "It's pretty. Sounds kind of sad."

"So it's like a folk song?" Juliet asked. "Don't blush, I like it! I just don't really know a lot of those."

She was wondering if she should.

"That's a very lovely song," Elphaba said, having been drawn to the fire by her voice. "Is it traditional for where you're from?"

Elphaba herself was likewise a bit overdressed for camping, but she didn't have more practical outdoorsy clothes. She'd not exactly been anticipating such living conditions, though she had been enjoying herself.

"Scots as in... Scotland?" Elphaba asked, remembering her Earth geography. "So are you not of that heritage, just have heard it? I'm a little shaky on all of this. Sadly no one can properly compare this sort of thing to Ozian culture."

"Rilla!" Ariel had to let out a breath of pleasant surprise when she followed the voice she heard in the air that night to the fireplace and found her friend there. "What was that? Is that a Canadian song? It was so beautiful."

"Scottish?" asked Ariel. "So...uh, Scotland, right? And who's Old Highland Sandy?"

Annie had been looking for something to do, which meant she was on the lookout for people. Luckily there was singing to lead her to them!

"Aww, that's so pretty," she said with a smile.

"I might as well, since I'm here," she said, taking a seat. "I've never heard anyone sing at a campfire before. I thought it was all s'mores and gossip."

Wesley wandered over, much to the distress of the current gender ratio, upon hearing Rilla's song.

Of course, he hadn't known it was Rilla until he got close. That was an unexpected hurdle, but he'd go with it.

"It's a lovely song," he volunteered once she was finished.

Weeeell... bad.

"Fairly well," he replied, ever the liar optimist. "And yourself?"

Dave was making his way over to the campfire anyway, but the music was extra incentive to stop by. When he got a little closer, he was a little disappointed that it wasn't barbershop so he could join in.

"Doing your part to entertain the crowd?" he asked.

[identity profile] iwishiwasbig.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I couldn't. I need at least two, three more guys around me to sing acapella with any confidence," Dave said. "It's kind of a thing."

"How you doing?" Jack said with a cautious wave at the guy he hadn't met. "I'm Jack."

"Not bad. Maybe a little overwhelmed by evil Canadian dancing monkeys, but at least that was just a movie," Dave said. "I'm Dave. Nice to meet you."

"Nice singing," Jack said as he took a seat at the campfire. "If you run into a girl named Sam? Don't sing for her. Unless you really like pudding."

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeeeeah, I bet," Jack said with a smirk. "She's a bit... out there. Way out there. Also? Don't let her blindfold you."
