The Roof, Late Saturday Morning

Fall was coming, Karolina could feel it. She wasn't sure how she felt about it, the whole idea of fall on the east coast, though she supposed she was going to take it as it came. No use fighting the seasons.

Still, she'd taken her glorious breakfast of a Pop-Tart up on the roof this morning, sitting on the ledge and looking out over the town. The day was mostly cloudy, but even with just a little sun coming through every once in a while, she was happy enough. Recharging.

And after hesitating and fidgeting a while, she even took off her bracelet. There was no one else on the roof. She could let her true colors show – if that's what they were, the shimmery yellow and pink and blue. She wasn't sure yet.

But it did still feel nice to be out in the open air.

When he made his way up the stairs and pushed the door open, Alec was expecting... a quiet roof. Maybe one or two people around, doing the quiet-roof thing they did. Not so much the burst of colors (in the form of a girl he really thought he would've noticed before, if this was what she looked like) that he wound up encountering, but it was Fandom. He'd seen stranger things.

So he just nodded. "Morning."

Karolina was only a little bit startled because really, she'd known there was a very real possibility of others wandering up here, though it was a different thing to think that than it was for it to actually happen. So, a little startled.

She looked back over her shoulder at the voice, and said (if a little sheepishly), "Morning."

"It's, uh. It's a nice day."

Yes, Alec. Just ignore the multicolored Tinkerbell in the room.

"It's a little cloudy," Karolina shrugged. Well, she wasn't about to jump on 'you're probably wondering why I'm shiny and colorful' either. "You're in my drama class, right? I'm sorry, I can't remember your name."

"Alec," Alec filled in. "You're... I'm not sure I've noticed you?"

Olive had a pop tart in her mouth as she walked up onto the roof, and a pile of paper in one hand. It had worked so well the other day, as far as entertainments go, so she figured she might repeat the experience over breakfast.

And then she saw Karolina. "Holy crap." Not a bad holy crap, for the record. Just a 'didn't know you were tie-dye' kind of one.

Yeah, Karolina supposed there would have been better ways to ease her roomie into this knowledge, but here they were.

"Um," she said, eloquently, trying for a little smile and holding up her hands. "Surprise, ta-dah?"

"Um," Olive replied equally as eloquently, having taken the pop tart out of her mouth as she wandered closer curiously. "You are like, really...colorful."

What a thoughtful response, Olive.

"Uh, yeah," Karolina admitted, because eloquence was clearly not a thing happening here. "It... It kind of goes with the flying thing."

Who knew being all shimmery and colorful could be that crucial to a seemingly unrelated skill?

"It's pretty," Olive offered, which was a weird thing to say, she thought. "Do the sparkles...help?"

Liara had not exactly anticipated the roof to be busy... but then again she wasn't sure what to think of the roof in general. None of the buildings she had stayed in on Thessia had quite such a set-up - asari design didn't really allow for it.

Naturally, that meant curiosity eventually drove her up there anyw--

"Oh," she said, "Karolina-- I'm sorry. Am I disturbing something?"

Oh thank goodness, someone who'd at least seen this before! Karolina's smile came a little more easily, and far less sheepish.

"No, not at all," she assured Liara. "I'm just enjoying what's left of the summer."

"It is quite lovely, isn't it?" Liara asked, covering ground until she found a place to stand near Karolina. "It's hard to imagine it getting so much colder."

"Yeah," Karolina agreed with a sigh. "At least it'll probably be interesting. My first east coast fall, you know? But I don't know if I'm looking forward to it."

"I imagine it is going to be something of an adjustment." There was a slight hint of humor in Liara's tone, if you paid close attention.

"Huh." Tony blinked over at her for a moment before taking a soothing sip of coffee.

Annnd the slight sheepishness was back.

"I seem to inspire that reaction."

But it could have been far worse, so she didn't look too bothered. No one had run away screaming.

"I met you as a pony," Tony said after a moment. So, there was that.

"You did!" Yes, that definitely made things a little less awkward. If not much less weird. "So, uh, yeah. It does translate back into not having hooves, as well."

"Well, I can safely say you're prettier this way," Tony decided on. He was ever so charming like that.

Jessica thought she'd be the only person on the roof when she went up. Jessica thought wrong. But hey, she was up here anyway, might as well say hi to the people, some of whom were glowing rainbow colors.

"Is there a roof party going on and nobody told me?" Jessica said. "If not, good. If so, then I'm crashing it, sorry."

The person glowing rainbow colors chuckled a bit. "I wasn't really expecting it to be so busy up here this morning."

After a whole summer here, she still hadn't learned about Fandomites' tendency to flock.

"Neither was I," Jessica said. "I guess it just seemed like a good roof day. But, let's be honest, what day isn't?"

"Well," said Karolina, tilting her head as she considered it, "it's almost fall, so rainy days might not be great for being on the roof?"

She was not crazy about rain in any case.

"It's still not bad if you're feeling moody or have an umbrella," Jessica said. "You're probably right by the time we hit winter, though. I doubt that will stop people though."
