3rd Floor Common Room | Sunday Evening

Stiles was bored, so bored. Bored and unable to focus on anything, it was a terrible affliction. After spending all day in his room doing nothing he decided to broaden his horizons and go to the common room to do nothing. Of course Stiles wasn't actually capable of doing literally nothing so "nothing" for him right now meant continuing his quest to teach himself Archaic Latin while the second Dusk movie was playing in the background.

Shut up, he was watching it ironically. Or something. It was better than watching the Mets play the Pirates. If they lost to the Pirates it'd just be embarrassing and Stiles refused to be a part of it, no sir. He would rather watch lame not-werewolves and sparkly vampires any day.

Somewhere along the way he managed to make an un-burnt bowl of popcorn and poured M&M's in it. 'Cause it was necessary to add them.

[Open, of course. Just for the record it pains me to play a Mets fan]

"There a particular reason why?" Jim asked, curious. "Or just because being all...werewolfy messes them up?"

"I think it's the super healing?" Stiles said. "Like alcohol doesn't stay in their system long enough to work or something."

"Ah, so it's not a matter of them not being able to handle alcohol, they just handle it too quickly and never get the buzz."

How sad for them. "But, they miss out on hangovers, at least."

"True," Stiles said with a nod. "But they don't have a go-to excuse for when they do something stupid."

"So, if they do something stupid, it just makes them stupid?" Jim guessed.

[robinonadderall]

"Pretty much," Stiles said. "Certainly makes me feel better about myself."

[pursuedthestars]

"Using someone else's stupidity to feel better about yourself?" Jim approved. "What an opportunist."

[robinonadderall]

"I have to take what I can get," Stiles said. "I don't have super powers or anything, so."

[pursuedthestars]

"Neither do I and I get by," Jim said though he knew there were many differences between him and Stiles. "You want superpowers?"

[robinonadderall]

"Who wouldn't?" Stiles asked. "It seems to be a burden for most superpowered people I know, but it'd still be cool. I'd just want it done the right way."

"What superpower?" Jim wondered. "Something flashy or something typical like flying or invisibility?"

[robinonadderall]

"I never got the appeal of flying. Cars exist for a reason," Stiles said. "I don't know, I guess I'd be content with super strength. Anything that helps to protect people."

"What about you? Unless you already have powers I don't know about."

"No superpowers to speak of," Jim said, sighing sadly. "As for what I'd have?"

He thought about it for a few seconds. "Precognition."

"Seriously?" Stiles asked. "Have you ever seen a movie where someone gets those powers? It always ends badly."

"I'd reverse the trend," Jim told him confidently. "Besides, I'm much smarter than anyone in these movies. Much, much smarter."

[robinonadderall]

"You think highly of yourself," he said. "What would be the point of precognition? You wouldn't be able to change anything."

[pursuedthestars]

"That sounds like a challenge."

He'd damn well change things.

"I'd change anything I wanted."

[robinonadderall]

"You can't though," Stiles said. "That's the point of all those movies."

[pursuedthestars]

"...you do realize that movies are fake and therefore shouldn't be used to build your life around, right?" Jim checked.

[robinonadderall]

"All fantasy has some basis in reality," Stiles said. "And take it from someone who happens to live in a horror movie---using them as guidelines helps."

[pursuedthestars]

"Okay, so let's say you've got precognition," Jim said, leaning back, "and you see something in the future where your friend gets hurt or worse. You'd just let it happen?"

[robinonadderall]

"Well of course not," he said. "That'd just be ridiculous. But it won't change anything. Whatever happens, happens."

[pursuedthestars]

"Yeah, I don't accept that." He shook his head. "Never have. Future's not set in stone. It's fluid and if I wanna change it, I'm gonna change it."

[robinonadderall]

"Okay, what about this? You meet people from your past who are gonna experience your future. You know bad things will happen to them but overall they're still alive," Stiles said. "Would you tell them about it so they can try to prevent it and quite possibly make things worse or would you accept that the current course is the safest since they're still breathing?"

Jim thought about it. "Too vague to really make a decision. Do I like the people from my past? Do I hate them? What's the bad thing that's gonna happen? I mean, are they gonna get eaten by some giant plant or just eat some bad food and get a stomach virus? I'd have to know it all to really make a decision."
