Sixth Floor; Monday Evening [01/28].
So the idea had been tossed around between Astrid and Sabine about a potential random party on the sixth floor, because why not, and there was apparently a party-a-month quota to be met. Monday might be a weird day for a party, but it wasn't like this place held to a tradtional sort of school schedule, and Mondays were usually the days that Astrid needed something like this, anyway, since she actually did wind up with more of a traditional sort of school day. It actually hadn't been too bad this week, though, and she didn't think looking forward to the party had anything to do with it. Because, if she was honest, she was feeling more apprehensive than excited.
She supposed, if no one showed up, and it was just her and Sabine vegging out on all the Chinese food they'd gotten (this time with egg rolls, and plenty of fortune cookies), looking at and admiring the art on her tarot cards, well, then, that would be fine by her, really. But, since she didn't know how well she could depend on that weird thing that happened when people just knew where to find the food when it arrived at the doors, she hadoh-so-handwavily made up little individual cards, a hand-painted tarot face on one side, and the simple words "Monday Night, Sixth Floor" on the other.
Mysterious. Enigmatic. Probably the source of disappointment for at least a few people when they followed the cards and discovered it was just some half-assed party, but, hey, it got the word out, and Astrid had enjoyed spending the weekend making them. It wasn't like she was plannning on doing anything but drawing and painting, anyway.
She was also wearing her mother's white kimono, laying a cloth over a short coffee table, and laying out her cards with a bit of trepidation and regret. She probably could have gone back on the idea that she'd offer to read the fortune of anyone who was interested, but, at the same time, she was a little curious as to how it would go, and it wasn't ike many people were likely to show up, anyway....

Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
... Norman, you managed the Magic Box.
You knew perfectly well what it was.
Still, it seemed like as good a conversation starter as any, so...

Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
Norman met that soft smile with a little smile of his own, and then gestured to the spot in front of her.
"Mind if I sit? I'd be interested, I think. It's funny, I work in the magic shop, but nobody's ever read my tarot for me before."
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
She felt a weird hesitation, but she soothed it down by reminding herself that if all she managed to draw with the card was a complete blank, with Norman she could at least just tease him about jail and tattoos and their fifty million classes they always had together.
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
"Well," Norman decided, taking a seat on the pillow, "no better time to start than the present, right? I can be your guinea pig."
He was still smiling, yeah. Not exactly worried about what the cards might or might not say. Sure, there could be something to it, but there was something to plenty of things. Why sweat it?
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
So.
"I'm just going to do a simple three-card draw, then," she said, shuffling the deck. "Past, Present, Future."
And, after a moment, she drew the three cards, laying them face down between them on the table, before going to flip them over, noting each card and observing Norman's reaction to each one as she revealed it, though she didn't even know quite what she was looking for.
It's more about reading the person than the cards.
"The Empress. The King of Wands." Her brow furrowed maybe just a little a that, but she moved on quickly. "The Page of Swords."
She regarded the first card, arched a brow at Norman. "I don't suppose you've been pregnant in the past, have you?"
A question she couldn't help herself from asking, but also one intended to buy herself a little more time.
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
Norman blinked, and then broke into a startled little laugh.
"I don't know how to answer that," he replied, grinning. "I mean, metaphorically? Is that what that card means?"
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
"The King of Wands is a symbol of a determination, of overcoming challenges, and being a leader, while the Page of Swords represents curiosity and an eager, almost nervous energy toward something. Taken separately, they do seem to paint a pretty nice picture of your personality as a whole. Taken together, they almost seem to represent the birth of an idea in the past, the ability to overcome the challenges it might offer in the present, and the excitement to maintain it in the future."
She tilted her head curiously at Norman. "Are there any projects or ideas you've had lately that you've thought of pursuing? The cards seem to suggest that it would be a wise idea to go ahead and do it."
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
Norman hesitated for a moment. Off the top of his head, there was...
Huh.
"I mean, there's a sort of family inheritance thing," he ventured. "It's not money, more like a responsibility. I was thinking of maybe doing more with it...?"
With the whole seeing ghosts and possibly having some manner of necromancy power that he didn't completely understand but it sounded like a terrible idea and his dad would murder him if he went home and mentioned that a dead guy was teaching him magic, so...
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
Most incredible of all, she could almost imagine Ingrid's small nod of approval as Astrid successfully laid out the template that lead Norman to fill in his own blanks.
"Well," she said, smiling a little as she shrugged. "There you go, then. The cards, at least, seem to support you."
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
"Hey, a good sign," he replied. "It's nice to have it validated even a little bit, honestly."
Even if it was by the cards.
"Pretty good for a first reading, Astrid."
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
She looked down, distracting herself by gathering up the three cards and gingerly placing them back in the deck.
"Thanks, Norman," she said. "That actually wasn't so bad, really. Not anything I think I'd make a career out of or anything, but I could see myself doing this a little more."
On a beach. In Mexico. Toes digging in the sand underneath the table...
"I mean," she added, "thank you, too. It's your hopeful future that did most of the hard work, right?"
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
He kinda loved his little ghost. Especially now that his parents knew about it and hadn't pulled him from the school or anything after all.
"The reading was fun, though. I might have to get you to show me how, sometime. Unless that ruins the whole mystique of it, of course..."
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
Re: Tarot Readings - 01/28.
"Well, hopefully I don't disappoint that card," Norman replied, smiling crookedly. "Seeing the bigger picture isn't half as easy as it looks."
