Room 412: Overdue Library Book

Janet waited outside Belthazor's room for Zero to join her.

He'd had a book out since October 3rd. Seventy-nine days. It was past time to get that book back.

And since the book was from Special Collections? The fine was going to be pretty damn expensive.

Janet smiled. Being a library assistant could be such a fun job sometimes.

"Parker, did I ever tell you how much I admire your sense of timing?" Callisto drawled.

"Thanks, Callisto," Parker replied, grinning. "Would you be willing to spring for copies? Or should I just get you a password to the website I'll be putting up?"

Bel blinked as the camera went off. "Didn't know you were so eager to get half-naked pictures of me, Parker," he said with a grin. "You didn't need to bring the mallet goon squad. You could've just asked."

"Hey Bel." Callisto waved. "Feeling a little cold?"

Okay technically she wasn't even looking but you don't waste an opportunity to use that line.

"Why, you offering to give a lapdance like I heard you did for Angel last night?" Bel said.

"Bel, Bel, Bel," Callisto rolled her eyes. "What makes you think a lapdance was all I gave Angel?"

Again, not that she'd actually done that, but it was "wind up the emodemon" time.

"Well, I don't recall any complaints, guess somebody must have just read the fine print incorrectly."

Bel nodded gravely. "Sex with Callisto does not equal a moment of true happiness. Check."

"Well, I for one was never dumb enough to equate perfect happiness and sex to begin with," Callisto examined her nails. "Pleasure? Yes. Fun? Yes. Great workout? Yes. Pefect happiness? Please."

"For the record? Perfect happiness and orgasm are not equivalent. However, I can guess that someone of your *limited* experience might confuse the two."

"Hardly limited, sweetheart," Bel said, blinking again at the flash. At least his glare was sexy. "Go talk to Phoebe if you want to know the truth."

"Did I mention that I'm getting her a copy of Women Who Love Too Much for Christmas? Or hey. I could just leave it with you. I'm sure you'd get something out of it."

"Awww, thanks, you shouldn't have," Bel said. "I thought about picking up Psycho Bitches with Control Issues for you, but I didn't think we were at the gift-giving level of our relationship yet."

"You didn't return it," said Janet. "You do realize that the instant I was no longer possessed, I pulled the records on that book and checked it out to you, right?"

Bel scratched his head. "Huh. I could've sworn I returned it. Well, I'll take a look around and get back to you on it then." He moved to shut the door.

*There might be a croquet mallet between the door and the frame.* You don't seem to understand. We're leaving for the holidays. And all library business will be concluded before we leave the island. So. Book. Now. Cough it up.

Also, fine. Also now.

Bel shrugged. "I'll look for the book, but I don't have any money for any stupid fine. Spent it all on Yule presents for my girlfriend and all."

"The book." Janet held her hand out. "Now. The fine is going up every minute you hold onto it."

"You didn't tell me any due date when you handed me the book," Bel said, trying very hard to keep a hold of his temper. "Nor was I notified about any fine. I think we need to see the principal before I'm paying anything to you, because I don't think you're being very fair at all."

Two weeks from the day the book is checked out. I thought that was obvious. Surely you didn' believe you had the right to keep it for two and a half months.

Also, I believe Principal Bristow has already left, and Principal Smith isn' here yet. *eyebrow*

"Hey, nobody told me anything about any due date," Bel said. "Special collections being, you know, special, I thought I could keep it as long as I needed for the project. I'm more than happy to return it, but while having four cute girls -- well, three, since it's Parker and all -- trying to get into my room while I'm wearing nothing but a towel? Fun, but I don't take kindly to threats."
