Hangover survivors' mecca

It's 12:48 pm. Jaye is still in her pajamas. She may still have some bedhead going on. She is camped out on the sofa of the second floor common room with a blanket, a pillow, and a super size bottle of aspirin. And water. Lots of water. She also ordered out for pizza. And she hates everything on TV and wishes someone brought a movie. Because she's not going back upstairs.

Her head hurts. However, that shouldn't discourage anyone from stopping by and teasing (as she's too icky to care) or joining in the ughness (as you may have a better story).

"Hey," Angela says, leaning her head on Marty's shoulder. "I didn't embarass either of us last night, did I?"

"No. Just me singing Billy Joel and some random public displays of affection. You need some hydro-aspirin therapy?" Marty says offering a bottle of water and the community aspirin bottle.

Angela squints, remembering. "Oh! I thought that song was pretty, I didn't know it was ... him," she says, in a tone she normally reserved for slugs. "And many thanks for the therapy. I'm not that bad, but I still need the water."

"You seem all cheerful."

"Why wouldn't I be? It's a new year, we don't have class for another week. My girlfriend is in the right age bracket... So I'm enjoying the moment before something doomish hits FH," Marty says knocking on wood.

"Don't say that, dork," Angela says affectonately. "You're totally asking for another zombie invasion tonight."

"And I'm happy we're both in the same age bracket and dimension and everything too."

"Did you not see me knock on the wood? Totally negates the whole me jinxing something by saying it out loud. That's like a scientific principle or something."

"Really," Angela says with a dubious look. "I did not know that."

"So what do you want to do with this week, anyhow? I was thinking about a field trip to IKEA."

Marty shrugs. "I don't know. Looking at swedish furniture that I have to put together myself isn't really my thing. Is this part of the deal where you have to go see your parents sometime soon?"

"I was kind of thinking about getting better stuff and decorating a little, since I have a double all to myself now," Angela says. "But no huge deal if you don't wanna go along." She sounds a little hurt, though.

"I'm not sure when I'm going to go see my parents. I just couldn't deal with the trip this weekend, then next weekend is right before classes, so I was thinking the weekend of the 14th. Do you have plans this month at all?"

"I'll help you put the furniture together, if you want." Marty says hoping to smooth things over. "As for my plans... Just class and stuff. Other than that nothing. Why? Are you going to ask your Mom for me to come along again? Because that didn't go so well the last time, and I doubt she wants to see me after the way our last phone conversation went."

"Cool, I could probably use the help," Angela says, smiling gently, though the smile goes away when she considers the issue of Marty and her parents. "I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be away when anything cool was going on. You do not need to deal with my mom until she's had a lot of time to calm down and all that. I'm sure it's not that bad, though."

*coughs*

"I did mention the 'Jergen's Lotion' thing, right?"

"Yeah, but..." Angela flails a bit. "Old me shouldn't have put you in that position to start with, y'know?"

Marty shrugs. "Well... she was in a bad position. You know? One minute she was buying coffee, the next minute she was dealing with a place she ran away from ten years ago," he replies.

"True," Angela says, deliberately. Then, softly: "I feel soerry for her -- me -- but I still hate that she made things bad between you and my mom, when you guys didn't get along to start with."

"Don't worry about it. I mean I could have said no. I knew it was going to end in disaster but... well it was still you and I wanted to help," Marty sighs.

"Hopefully your Mom won't hold it against me."

"I'm sure she won't," Angela says, totally lying. "And, um, thanks."

She leans her head into Marty's shoulder. "So what does the villain want, again? I can never follow these movies."

"Well in this one, they want to kill and discredit James Bund. That guy with the blond hair is from the kerplakistan spy agency 'Smarsh'."

Marty thinks about it for a second.

"Actually all the movies are pretty much like that. It's pretty much the same formula. Bund sleeps with a woman in the beginning, sleeps with the bad girl and then sleeps with the good girl and there's a bunch of explosions in between."

"Oh," Angela says. "And the chick in the black kimono has to be the bad girl, right?"

"So, um, why watch the marathon when they're all the same, no offense?"

"Yeah, black outfit denotes the badness. Um... there are some differences. The gadgets are usually different and the girls are too," Marty replies.

"Sometimes the cat the bad guy is always petting is different too."

"Got it," Angela says. She's giving Marty a funny little smile that might say "okay, if you say so."

"Why do bad guys always have cats in movies, anyhow? It's so weird."

"I think that's the point. The weirdness of a cruel man being so kind to a little kitty," Marty says with a grin that probably means he has no idea what he's talking about. "Or the producers really like cats."

"Or they get them cheap," Angela says absently. "Or, yopu know, all of the above."

"Hmmm. Maybe it's best we don't question the logic of the Bund movies. Just enjoy the explosions and the sexist overtones."
