Moving Day (again!) - Second floor hallway

After her omgsoconfusing morning, Rory started to patiently move boxes of her things down the hall from room 236 to 213.

She is but one wee, clumsy, fairly weak girl though, so she would certainly appreciate any help offered.

Unless it's offered by John or Lee, because they are OMG SO DEAD.

Anakin walked down the hallway with a scowl on his face. His phone had been ringing off the hook with weird messages all day.

He brightened when he saw Rory, then noticed Parker. The events of last night were still pretty raw. The muscles in his jaw clenched, but he tried to behave normally.

"Need a hand?" he asked.

Rory smiled. Parker ducked back into 234, seemingly without seeing Anakin.

"Sure. We're going to 213," Rory replied, lifting up a box of books and nearly falling over.

Anakin waved his hand and the box floated in the air. "I've got that," he said with a smile.

If Parker was going to avoid him by being afk, well, it wasn't like he wouldn't be kind of relieved about it.

Rory grinned. "I will never get tired of the convenience of you being able to do that." She picked up a significantly lighter box, and inclined her head in the direction of 213 with a slight smile before starting to head off.

Anakin gave her a slightly strained smile in return and followed along behind her.

The box floated about three feet above the ground in the space between them.

"So, how are you?" Rory asked quietly. "Did you get my message?"

"It's been a long week," he replied. "And no, I didn't. My phone's been acting really weird all day."

Rory blanched slightly. "Mine too." She shot him a sidelong look. "John told you about the folder helmet?"

Anakin's expression went carefully innocent. "He might have mentioned something along those lines, yes."

He looked confused. "Wait, how did you hear about that?"

Rory pulled her cell phone out of her pocket and waved it at him. "Got a call from John that was meant for you." She arched a brow. "You wanted to see some photos, I understand?"

"It's Aeryn wearing a folder on her head," Anakin said. "Of course I wanted to see this!"

Anakin was born without a sense of self-preservation.

"Hey, it was a folder helmet," Rory corrected, blushing furiously. "To protect her from lava monsters. My itty bitty self was quite a protector. Because lava is dangerous, you know."

Anakin imagined the look on Obi-Wan's face if Anakin decided to wear a folder on his head the next time they visited a volcanic planet.

It might almost be worth it.

"I'll keep that in mind," he said with a grin.

"Good," Rory said solemnly. "Because I would hate for you to get all, as Callisto would say, 'burninated.'"

Yes, talking about the damn folder helmets was humiliating. But making Anakin smile? Worth it.

"I'll add that to my list of life goals," Anakin replied. "Become the best Jedi ever, avoid burnination."

"I think that should be on everyone's list of goals, really," Rory replied. "It's on mine, too. Win the Pulitzer, avoid burnination, continue to have awesome hair."

"I'm pretty sure having awesome hair is beyond me," Anakin said. "I can add 'saving as many beings as I can,' though, right?"

"Of course," Rory said benevolently. "And you can always aspire for awesome hair. I mean, it's already awesomely unique." She looked over and grinned.

"Okay, now you're just making fun of me," he said, in a better mood than he'd been all week.

He looked down the hallway. "Are we getting closer to your new room, or are we going to have stop for food and water?"

Rory arched a brow and nodded at 213. "We just got here. It's what we get for walking slowly. And I'm not making fun of you! Your hair is very unique."

Since she'd already been in with Anders, the door was partly open, and Rory only had to lean into it to pop it open. "Behold. My new dorm room. Complete with bunk beds."

"Bunk beds?" Anakin said curiously, then peered into the room.

He snickered. "Can I have the top one?"

He made the box hover in the center of the room. "Where do you want this?"

"If you want the top one," Rory said distractedly, setting her own box down on the lower bunk. "This one's mine, though, so that'd be no fu - " She stopped mid-word, blushing so hard that she felt vaguely faint.

"Um. You can set it anywhere, I guess." She stood on her tiptoes, looking at the top bunk in an effort to keep her gaze fixed on anything that didn't happen to be tall, braided and making a box float mid-air. "Maybe I'll keep Vladdie up here."

Anakin gave her a slow smile. "Well, if it's Vladdie's bed, I suppose I'll have to find somewhere else to sleep."

Sad thing? He thought he was being subtle.

Rory glanced over at him, and then looked back at the bunk.

"Yes, Vladdie's really kind of a bed hog," she agreed seriously. "He wouldn't want you in his space."

Anakin nodded sadly. "He looks like the type," he said, eyes twinkling. "We'll just have to come up with a different solution."
