Second Floor Common Room -- evening

Student Council Party - Congratulate and Meet Your Reps!

The sign on the common room also said:

Pretzels, spring rolls, chocolate fondue, and nachos available

The TV is turned to Vanessa Saturn, in case you want to just watch TV and not talk to people.

Peter walked into the common room, glanced at the sign, glanced around, and waved to his fellow StuCo members. He wasn't quite in the mood for hanging out with people, but even more than that he really didn't want to do any homework tonight. That's what Thursdays were for.

So he sucked it up, grabbed some pretzels, and went in to mingle.

Angela waved to Peter. "Hey, congratulations!"

"Thank you!" Peter said. "I'm still kind of amazed I won. I guess the Parker name goes a long way."

"Maybe. Or maybe you ran a good campaign," Angela says with a shrug. The whole "student politics are a pointless popularity contest" line isn't one she's going to take with Peter right now, if only to be polite.

"So, do you have goals for your time on council, or anything?"

Peter would have normally agreed with the line if she had mentioned it. Of course, getting elected after barely meeting most of his class sank that line of thinking.

"Isabel and I were campaigning on the idea of a monthly game night. Getting a bunch of people playing Risk is just about my only goal at the moment."

"My dad used to play Risk with us when I was younger. I haven't played it in years. Monthly game night sounds awesome."

"Yeah, I'm thinking it would be fun. Especially with all of these crazy people. I'd love to see someone try to stage a bank robbery in Monopoly," Peter said, laughing a little.

"Or someone could declare that they were a communist, and redistribute all the wealth equally," Angela says, eyes shining.

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"That would work. Until somebody ambitious went crazy and grabbed Boardwalk and Park Place in order to crush all of the other players." Peter shook his head sadly as he said, "Communism doesn't really work long-term in Monopoly."

"Which doesn't make any sense, because it's totally the most practical system in the real world."

She considers this for a moment. "See, the oppressed other players could rise up and crush the bastard who owned Boardwalk and Park Place. Damn the man!"

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"It's hard to crush the bastard when you have to mortgage your sould to him," Peter said. "And even if you do manage to miss those paydays, you're probably landing on the Luxury Tax."

"It's like the game was made for Capitalists."

"But mortgages are a tool of the man! You can just ignore them after you crush him," Angela says triumphantly, even though she might not be making any sense.

She smiles. "I have basically never finished a game of Monopoly. I always get bored or have to do something else.""

Peter decided not to point out that you couldn't do much to crush the little Scotty dog if you were already out of the game.

"I've finished a couple games over the years," he said. "It took forever and the thrill of victory was quickly replaced by the agony of no sleep, but still. At least they were finished."

"And that's important. That sense of accomplishment."

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Also, there's no sleep better than the sleep you can get after staying up all night to win tens of thousands of fake dollars."

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not opposed to accomplishing great things. I suppose that if great things are going to be accomplished, I might as well be on the train." Peter ate a pretzel. "I'll probably hang around the back of the train when it comes to planning more dances, though. They're really not my thing."

Peter ignored the fact that the last time he claimed something wasn't "his thing," he ended up running for StuCo.

"I can help. I'm good with helping. I can't wait to get to the fun stuff, though. Because, y'know, fun," Peter finished lamely.

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-19 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I really hope you didn't just jinx me," Peter said, grabbing some nachos.
