Second Floor Common Room - Jaye's Birthday Party

Rory had spent a large portion of her afternoon decorating the common room. There were light yellow and orange streamers strung across the ceiling, and there was a large, pretty banner spelling out, "HAPPY 17TH, JAYE."

And there were snackies and drinkies. But not the kind that Jaye had on the radio last night. Because no one wants to be in another pageant, do they?

Molly giggled. "And then you'd have something to feed John too, if he gets turned into something that would eat popcorn."

"I might have to mash it up so it's not a choking hazard," she says. She is completely serious.

"Oh, good thought," Molly agreed. "She might turn him into something really small. It would be bad to choke John when he is a wee animal."

Blair bounced in and made a beeline for the two. He leaned over and absently hugged Molly before grinning and holding out a gift. "Jaye! Happy birthday! I'm late but look...I brought you a bouquet (http://www.cookiesbydesign.com/images/products/600/A248.jpg). Of cookies! It's like the coolest thing ever!"

"Oh, you have been well-educated on this present thing," she grins. "You rule."

Molly... was surprised into silence by the hug from Blair. It was the first time he'd done anything like that without asking first. She grinned and blushed just a little as Blair spoke to Jaye.

"No problem, man. I figured cookie and flowers and...wow! So are you having a good birthday?" Blair grinned and bounced. He looked over at Molly and smiled. "Sorry, I'm so late. The whole cookie thing took time to process."

"The first half sucked, but this makes up for it," she says. And she might nod Molly at Blair a little. Because awwww.

"Yay for less sucky second half!"

Molly smiled back at Blair. "You were getting Jaye's gift. No need to be sorry."

Aw. She's doing that a lot lately.

"I should leave you two crazy kids and go mingle," she says. And doesn't say "aw". Out of sheer force of will.

Blair looks at Jaye and really thinks that he should say no and it was alright if she stayed, but for some reason he just nods and smiles and turns to look at Molly. "Hey there."

Still kind of stuck on the unexpected hug, Molly smiled back. "Hi."

"Hi." Blair grinned dumbly for a moment and then realized they could be stuck in this conversation for a long time.

"Nice night."

Molly hadn't been outside since afternoon and was currently standing in the middle of a climate controlled room. "It is," she said.

"Yup." Blair searched his brain frantically for something...anything to say. There was a story about the Ute Indians....or that time when he had shaved that...or maybe something about classes or school?

"Pretty streamers."

Molly looked up at the streamers and nodded. Something to talk about...

She looked back at Blair. "So, what did you think of the guest speaker in Creature Languages today?"

"He was pretty cool, I guess. Seemed to know his stuff and have a love for snakes." Blair shrugged. "It's not my favorite language...too drooly."

"I don't mind snakes, but I didn't really like him and I couldn't get the language at all," Molly said. "It all just sounded like S's to me."

"Why didn't you like him?" Blair said. "Lots of S's and some H's and a few weird T sounds." He wiped his mouth a little. "Very drooly language."

Molly shrugged. "I don't know, he was just creepy. He reminded me of some of the bad guys I've fought I guess."

Blair nodded and moved a step closer. "I would normally say that Professor Dream wouldn't let a bad guy into the class, but I trust your instincts. Are you okay now?"

Molly stayed put as Blair stepped closer. "Oh, yeah. I'm perfectly fine," she said with a grin.

"Good." Blair grinned when he realized how close he was standing to Molly. Close enough to k...his brain caught up with his hormones and he stepped back. "Oh, man...I forgot to...um...water Hank! Man, he must be thirsty!"

Molly frowned a little. "Uh, okay. Wouldn't want Hank to get thirsty."
