Gym, early Saturday

It was very early on Saturday morning, so hopefully there wouldn't be anybody else around in the gym. She needed to work out some frustration, preferably without being recognized by more people she had never seen before in her life.

She pulled out the mats, laying them down at a decent distance from each other, then stepped onto on one and thought for a moment.

Dean headed down to the gym for the second morning in a row. The sparring yesterday morning had been fun; it was different sparring against someone who wasn't his brother who he could read like a book, or his father who pretty much laid him out every time.

Maybe he'd get lucky and find another sparring partner this morning.

Finding a petite blonde and a statuesque brunette, both scoring high on the pretty scale when he got there, Dean decided it was his lucky day whether he got a sparring partner or not.

"Good morning ladies," he greeted them with a grin.

Aeryn has no idea why people keep thinking morning's so good. She gives him a little nod hello.

Not exactly the warmest of greetings he'd ever gotten, but she was busy. Dean watched her work the heavy bag.. "Remind me never to make you mad," he said after a few minutes of watching her punch and kick. She was damn good.

"Quick learner," she says, backing off from the bag for a second to get into a better position for a kick.

"Yeah, well I try." He smiled again. "I'm Dean. I'm new here."

"Aeryn," she tells him. "And I figured as much."

"And you're not new here," Dean guessed.

"Been here since September," she nods, going for another punch to the bag. "And by now I know most of the people who came in here. At least, I did before this last week."

Dean nodded. "Yeah, there are a hell of a lot of us newbies, aren't there? Never thought summer school would be so popular."

"There are more of you every enrollment," she says, shaking her head. "Maybe it's something about Fandom. I honestly don't know."

"There's definitely something about Fandom, that's for sure," Dean pointed out. "This place is the weirdest I've ever been, and I've seen some pretty weird things."

"You've gotten all the usual warnings, then?" Aeryn asks. "Zombies, snow monsters, gremlins, vampires, spontaneous animal transformations?"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes and no," Dean replied, ticking them off on his fingers. "I don't think anyone's mentioned spontaneous animal transformations... unless that has to do with the invasion of tiny dancing bunnies?"

Peter nodded to Dean as he came in. "Morning."

"Morning," Dean replied with a little wave. "Going to give me a rematch later on?" he asked with a grin.

"Anytime." Peter sketched a salute. "Could change it up and go unarmed this time."

"Sure!" Dean said enthusiastically. Much as he'd like the sparring they'd did the day before, swords really weren't his specialty. He was much more comfortable with unarme combat. Not as comfortable as he was with a gun in his hand, but since that wasn't likely to be an option in the gym, unarmed it was.

"I can tell - your enthusiasm spells trouble for me," Peter joked. He was much more comfortable with a sword in his hand, personally. Though it sure seemed like he was going to have to get used to unarmed styles at Fandom without access to his sword.

"I'll go easy on you," Dean joked.

"Sure that you're not a knight, Dean? Your chivalry is beyond compare," with a big smile, Peter bowed jauntily.

Dean gave a bark of laughter. "Knight, huh? I've been called a lot of things, but that's definitely a new one."

"I suppose it would be hard to be a knight and American, hmm? I haven't heard that your Presidents bestow such titles."

"Nah. He just gives out medals and that kind of crap, I think. My dad's got a couple from when he was in the Marines."

Because Peter had learned enough about the past century's wars by now, he asked, "Vietnam?" Then added, "my father was a Navy man."

"Yeah, 'Nam." Dean looked at him, impressed. "Not bad for someone who's from the middle of World War Two. I take it your dad fought in that?"
