The Pool Saturday Afternoon

Paige was still trying to get over the topless photo of 'English' Peter apparently she had a knack for missing all the fun.

Having worked out that sitting in her room trying to work out if there was a spell to go back in time and exactly how much personal gain it would involve if there was, was not a good idea she headed to the pool.

Paige grinned, "well definitely, I could drown and if that happened my sisters'd get mad and thye'd probably blame you for letting it happen and then...well general badness, so it's probably the safest idea for the both of us if you get in." she explained

"I make it a policy to never argue with impeccable logic and certainly not to incur the wrath of sisters so I suppose you are absolutely correct." Peter stood up and, taking off his tunic, threw it onto one of the chairs. He removed his boots and belt and dove into the water over Paige's head.

Emerging again, he shook the hair out of his eyes and sputtered, "it's warm!"

Paige in no way thought 'score!' No really she didn't, nor did she check out his body, because she would never do such a thing, she also didn't think how he looked even better in the flesh, apart from the fact she totally did all those things.

This would explain why she didn't reply for a few moments, "probably something to do with the faculty not wanting us to die this early in the summer, I think they rely on the various attacks for that anyway, less chance of being sued."

Treading water, Peter said, "I'm sure you're right. Just didn't expect it - been a long time since I've been in a pool." He started to swim a lazy sidestroke. "Come on then, let's swim."

"Yeah I guess they didn't have heated pools in medieval times." she replied swimming to the side of him.

"I was talking to Maia about you yesterday, she's from the 40s too," she said when she was at his side, "she doesn't really remember it though, I thought maybe...you come over sometime, talk to her, well us about it, unless you don't really remember it either?"

"Not so much. More used to swimming in the ocean at this point. It seems funny not to have a current."

"I'd be happy to do so though anything I know beyond 1940 has been from histories I've read since I got here. Is Maia British?"

She shook her head gently, so as not to splash him, "American, but she knows you you are, I guess she's not all that fussy about what country you can tell her about, she just wants to know, it's all a little complicated, she's kinda from now as well."

"I'll certainly tell what I can. But it's good she's not particularly fussy, there were quite a few differences between the countries at the time. For one, Britain was at war." Peter grimaced.

Reaching the edge of the pool, Peter looked at Paige and smiled. "Race you back?"

Paige winced slightly at the mention if the war, "yeah right, sorry."

She considered the challenge for a moment wondering if using her magic would be considered cheating and figured it probably would. "sure why not," she said starting to swim back to the other side as soon as she'd finished speaking, what he was a big strong knight and she was a teenage girl he didn't expect a 'ready steady go' did he?

"No need to apologize. Unless you're also some reincarnation of Hitler. Which would just way too insane even for here."

Peter laughed as Paige took off without him and pushed off the wall into a steady crawl.

She looked over her shoulder to see how far he was behind, not entirely sure why or even if she was actually trying to win.

"Is this some sort of test to see how competitive I am?" she called over her shoulder to him, as she passed the half way point, "cos generally I'm not so much."

"Test?" In his confusion, Peter inhaled some water and sputtered. "I thought it would be fun?"

She turned her head back and continued to swim towards the side, "oh okay," she said slowing a little and deciding that she really needed to start going to the gym seeing as she didn't really have any classes over the summer and she was clearly out of shape.

Peter picked up his stroke again and closed some of the gap with Paige. Looking up, he said "No race then? Let's just swim."

Paige was a little breathless now, "we could just call it a tie," she suggested smiling as she slowed even more, "I've been so busy studying ~~and nearly dying~~ I've not really had much chance to do much else," she said hoping that would explain the breathlessness. "plus I've never actually been much of a swimmer."

"Without a doubt, a tie it is." Peter matched his stroke to hers as they reached the side of the pool. "From everything I've heard, this past school year hasn't been exactly normal or uneventful. Hopefully the summer will be a bit more relaxed." He grinned at the swimming comment and spoke lightly, "I empathize with that. My younger sister can beat me anytime swimming. It can be a crush to one's dignity. Not that she wouldn't think it needed crushing most of the time."

"well there's certainly gonna be less school work at least, which was my main issue." she told him just letting herself float for a while, "as for your dignity, well seem to have quite a lot from what I've seen, well apart from..." she shut her mouth quickly to stop herself from saying more, while the whole blushing thing was cute and endearing she didn't really want to cause it if she could help it.

Peter raised a mental eyebrow at her cut off phrase and let it pass without a comment. "The problem, or so I'm told, is that I have too much. Your sisters are older, right? You understand the impulse to cut them down to size," Peter commented as he continued to tread water.

"ah, well I'm sure this place'll see to that, it's hard to keep your dignity when you've been bitten by a gremlin causing you to run around in a leather basque," she said not mentioned that the person this has happened to was male.

"Yeah I'm the youngest of four, but like I said I've only known them a few months and I don't really have much of a leg to stand on where cutting them down to size is concerned, they don't seem to screw up half as much as I do. Still being the youngest that's pretty much my job isn't it?"

"Gremlin?" Peter raised an eyebrow inviting explanation.

He grinned at her comment about being the youngest. "Definitely, it is. Trust me when I say older siblings can get out of sorts when they don't get to rescue their sibs from scrapes - major or minor - on a regular basis. It's written into our brains or something."

"little green creatures, sharp teeth, about so high," she said holding her hands about a foot apart, "I'm pretty sure they're gone though so you shouldn't have to worry too much."

"I think we take it turns with the rescuing, but yeah they are both pretty over protective." she bit her lip and looked up at him, "Piper wants to meet you actually," she said quietly hoping it wasn't too soon to say this, while panicking that it was.

"Not worried precisely, but it's always good to know the terrain before engaging the enemy."

One may not think it possible to be able to bow while swimming, but Peter certainly appeared to bow in response to Paige's statement. "Certainly it would be an honor to meet any of your sisters," Peter said smoothly.

Paige is certainly impressed by the underwater bow, because she figured if there was ever a time you could relax you manners it would be in a pool.

She tilted her head and smiled, "I'll find out when she's free, although I'm starting to worry I'm laying claim to all your free time. You can always say no you know, I'll not be offended."

Paranoid, Paige? Never!

If Peter knew Paige's thoughts, he would tell her that manners weren't something one relaxes.

Peter looked slightly puzzled and then smiled, "I am more than happy both to speak to your roommate and sister. It's what one does for friends, you know. I would hope that you consider me a friend."

There's a moment when Paige hears the word 'friend' and inwardly deflates. Maybe she should give up now, although in fairness that really isn't her style at all, maybe she should just kiss him? NO cos that could go all sorts of wrong.

It's entirely possibly Peter notices the silence as she has this little inner discussion with herself before finally speaking. "Friends, yeah of course I do." Cool Paige, real cool
