Pippi had intended to make breakfast this morning, but she slept in and had cheer practice.

So, pancakes for lunch.

Peter tilted his head with concern at the hesitation over 'good' but didn't comment. He made a face in response to her question and looked down at the mess on the counter. "I'm learning that cracking eggs? Harder than it looks."

She looks over at the mess, smiling a little. "Do you need help?" she offers.

Peter grinned. "Oh no, I'm getting it now. Just pondering the irony of it being difficult to crack the fragile eggs. But if you'd like to add those *handwavy* ingredients over there, we could have a new batch of batter ready for Pippi in a few."

"I suppose I can handle that," she says, going over to work on adding the *handwavy* ingredients. "Did you offer to help, or were you in the wrong place at the wrong time?"

"I offered. Though I don't doubt Pippi would have pressed me into service if I didn't," he said with a wink. "Can't complain though. I've heard her pancakes are brilliant."

"Which, really, can make it all worth it," Hermione agrees with a smile.

"Exactly," Peter replied, stirring his eggs vigorously. "I've not seen you since the cabins, I think. How have you been?"

Still working on her part of helping, Hermione shrugs a tiny bit. "It's been quiet, mostly. I'm trying to get out more. I hear you've been getting out, though," she smiles.

"Have you been intent on a project then that keeps you away from everyone?" Peter raised an eyebrow then grinned. "And now I must inquire where you heard that?"

"No project yet," she says. "Though it might be time for me to start one. And I do listen to the radio."

"What type of projects interest you?" Peter asked. "And I could I have forgotten about the radio. It's so very useful." He shot a cold glance at Joxer.

"It's very good for getting information you wouldn't otherwise," she says with a nod. "Blair and I were talking about equality differences here, and I told him about the house elves at my old school, who are basically slaves so that we can have things easier. I'm thinking about starting a knitting drive and sending the proceeds- namely, clothing- to them."

Peter considered the idea. "I can't deny that it's a worthy goal, but if they're slaves, don't they need freedom more than knitted clothing?"

"That's just it. When they're given clothes, it means they're free," she says. "You can't just tell them they're free. They need to have it given to them."

"Peter is helping by making more batter." she grinned at the mess as well. "You might want to see if he needs help."

She flipped a few pancakes over.

"So since you've been here for so long by now, I'm sure you've been correctly warned of everything... Are you just here for the summer or are you staying on for the school year?"

"The whole year, as far as I'm aware," Hermione answers. "It's September where I come from. I was under the impression it would be the same case here, so I think I'll be here for a while. Have you been here long?"

"Since January. It's been very educational and exciting." she said. "Oh that's nice! You get a couple extra months of summer!"

"I would love to get back into regular classes, though," she says. "Two days a week just isn't enough!"

"Well, if there's a subject you're particularly passionate about," she said. "You should see if there's a teacher that'll do an independent study with you or something."

"That isn't a bad idea," she says appreciatively. "I might wait to see what's offered for the second summer session, though. Thank you."

"So what are you taking this session?"

"Observational Astronomy, and Scoobying 101," she says, though she still feels weird saying that.

"Oh I'd heard the 'Scoobying' class is fun. My friend Nadia is taking it."

"It is," she says, though she doesn't want to say out loud that she doesn't think she's very good at it. "I don't know a lot of jokes, though."

"Is telling jokes a big part of 'scoobying'?"
