Outside Hunting Class, Period 7

"Negotiation not Annihilation!" Blair chanted as he paced in front of the classroom, carrying a sign saying the same. "Negotiation not Annihilation! Also, have some cookies!"

He had thought about carrying a smaller sign stating that the slogan was Professor Lyman's idea and the cookies were Aziraphale's, but then he figured that it probably wouldn't help inter-teacher relations at all.

Nadia stopped smiling. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"I like her." Blair said. "We have fun together and she dances with me in the pen aisle and she reads my mind and lets me sing to her and...she likes me back."

"She broke your arm in a fit of rage."

"She was confused and sick and she's....better now." Blair hedged. He didn't really know what Simon had done to fix River. "They let her come back to school, that's got to stand for something."

"They let her stay in school after he bit and kicked me the first time. They let Bel stay in school while he was all evil. I'm not so sure her being allowed in school is really that good of an indicator."

"That's...a very good point." Blair bit his lip and thought.

"Nadia, I don't know that River is not going to lose it again. I hope she doesn't, not just because I don't like my bones getting broken but because it wasn't good for her either."

"I hope she doesn't, either, but part of being nonviolent is to not put yourself into situations where violence might happen. I don't want to see you get hurt again, Blair."

"I'd rather not see it myself, man." Blair shook his head. "But I'm not willing to give up River either."

"Can you not give up on her . . . from a distance?"

"I don't claim to be an expert on dating, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot less fun that way."

"I don't know, there's a long standing tradition of distance courtship throughout the world. . . ."

"If I'm around River a lot, I could keep an eye out for times when she might be getting sick again. It might prevent people from getting hurt."

"Not if you end up getting hurt first."

"I'll run really fast?" Blair said hopefully.

"Only if you know what you're looking for by then. You saw how fast she was. And what if you're somewhere where other people are? Other people who might get hurt before you can warn them?"

Blair leaned against the wall and rubbed his forehead. "So your solution is to just let her go and have no one hang out with her?"

"My solution is to have her hang out with people who know how to deal with her, or who could take her down, if it came to that."

"Like who exactly?" Blair asked. "I did a pretty good job of keeping her distracted at the clinic."

"I dunno, like . . . whoever it is that made her snap out of it this time. Or Walter did okay. But I don't want him hanging out with her all the time, because then he wouldn't be hanging out with me as much."

"I asked Bel to give her tips on how to be good." Blair nodded. "Hopefully that will help her."

Nadia scowled. "Yeah, because Bel's really got that one down,"

"Whoa, what's with the anger? Bel's been doing really good lately!"

"Tell that to Phoebe."

"This is more of the thing that she's upset about that you can't tell me, isn't it?"

Nadia sighed. "Yeah. It's not really my place."
