Outside the Danger Room, 7th Period

Blair was tired and sore and looking a little worse for wear. He sported a bandage on his forehead and several small cuts and bruises were visible on his face, neck and hands. His cast on the other hand was looking suspiciously shiny and white, as Aziraphale had kindly fixed that for him.

Also, he was without his backpack, but that might be hard to tell since he was sitting down on the floor just outside the danger shop door, the stop-sign shaped with the word "THINK" laying in front of him. It wasn't his best sign, but he felt really guilty about flashing a sign about not killing demons after last night.

John sighed gustily. "The whole point of any of these lessons is to keep from being killed. Which you obviously accomplished so you did something right."

"Oh no, man. Don't pretend that your cracked idea of conflict resolution worked here." Blair poked at him with his good hand. "I didn't fight anyone."

John crossed his arms over his chest. "Are you telling me no one fought the demons off?"

The sight of John being able to cross his arms over his chest made Blair angrier and he responded sarcastically. "I said that I didn't fight anyone, man. Hard of hearing or something?"

John's eyes narrowed. "No. Nor am I slow of brain. You didn't get away from a group of demons without something stopping them. Which, considering the way you're avoiding the question, is probably people fighting them."

"It's not like I have to answer your questions." Blair shot back. "You're not even my teacher."

"You just don't want to admit that you were wrong about how to deal with demons."

"You're an asshole." Blair said quietly, glaring at John.

John shrugged. "I've been called worse. Doesn't change the facts."

"You want to know the facts then?" Blair took a step closer, although the main effect of that was that he had to look up even more.

"The fact is that I didn't get a chance to talk about anything. I wanted to but I wasn't the one in charge or the one driving. So I just had to sit there and do nothing while they hacked up the car and broke in the windows and forced us off into the river and waited for us to drown!" By the end of this Blair was yelling and he poked his cast into John's chest.

John had more experience than he had ever wanted with dealing demon-induced trauma and so his voice was calm and even soothing when he said, "You got out alive. You did something right."

"Not so much." Blair said bitterly, shivering a bit at the memories of last night. "It took me too long to get the seat belt off and swim up to the surface and by the time I got to the riverbank Bel and Aziraphale were already fighting. There wasn't anything I could do to stop it."

"Demon attacks are like that," John told him again in the calm soothing voice. "You're in the middle of them before you know what's happening."

Blair leaned back against the wall, the calm voice deflating his anger. "We hid the trees. Dr. Wilson was bleeding and there was all that noise and fighting and demons getting killed and we just hid."

"If you're untrained and unarmed, that's the best thing you could do," John told him seriously.

"I don't want to be trained or armed. But I don't want people to have to kill for me either." Blair sat back down on the floor and shrugged. "Sucks."

John came down to Blair's level, balancing easily in a crouch. "It does," he agreed. "Anybody ever tell you it doesn't they're lying through their teeth."

Blair nodded sadly and looked at John. "Thanks, man."

John nodded. "There's no else left in class so you can finish your protesting for the day with a clear conscience." He smiled slightly. "Go somewhere that'll be more comfortable to rest on than the floor. You can call me more names next week when you're feeling better."

Blair nodded and stood slowly, leaning on the wall a bit. "Good idea, though I've got Damn the Man club in like an hour, so resting is going to have to wait for after that."

"Don't overdo it," John advised. "Adrenaline will carry you a long ways, but contrary to what it might seem like sometimes, it's better to rest before you actually fall over from exhaustion." Not that John was personally familiar with that particular concept at all. No, not him.

"No worries, man." Blair held up a hand. "I'm totally going to go crash after Damn the Man club." More or less.
