Outside the Danger Room, 7th Period

Blair was tired and sore and looking a little worse for wear. He sported a bandage on his forehead and several small cuts and bruises were visible on his face, neck and hands. His cast on the other hand was looking suspiciously shiny and white, as Aziraphale had kindly fixed that for him.

Also, he was without his backpack, but that might be hard to tell since he was sitting down on the floor just outside the danger shop door, the stop-sign shaped with the word "THINK" laying in front of him. It wasn't his best sign, but he felt really guilty about flashing a sign about not killing demons after last night.

"Or you could have, like, taken a nap. Or found one of the many people in this school who can heal with magic and get some of that patched up."

"I figured I'll nap while class is in session." Blair smiled. "Aziraphale worked some of his magic on me already." He waved his back to new cast at her. "You should have seen me before."

"I think I'm glad I didn't. You're going to sleep out here in the hall?"

"Yeah, I like to stick around so I catch anyone who got here early as they're coming out." Blair smiled.

Nadia was beginning to suspect that Blair had about the self-preservation instinct as as hyperactive, suicidal squirrel.

"Blair, you have about the same self-preservation instincts as a hyperactive, suicidal squirrel, don't you."

Sometimes, Nadia lacks subtlety.

"That's crazy." Blair scoffed. "Like anyone knows what the self-preservation instincts are of a regular squirrel, much less a hyperactive suicidal one."

"Yes, but one would imagine that a hyperactive, suicidal squirrel, being a) hyperactive and therefore quick to jump into any situation and b) suicidal, thus no longer possessing the will to live, would have a great deal less survival instinct than an average squirrel. So we can probably safely say that you are to the majority of the human population as a hyperactive homicidal--er--suicidal squirrel would be to the majority of the squirrel population."

Blair blinked at Nadia and pointed to his head. "I have an owie, remember? Please try not to confuse me with your crazy squirrel logic."

"This is all because I'm planning on sleeping in the hallway?"

"While you have an 'owie'." And, okay, there were actual airquotes on that. "You should really take a nap in a bed. Or at least on a couch. I've slept on tile before, and it's a very cold, unhappy place to sleep, and if you're already not at 100% odds are very good you'll get sick. And then you can't protest at all."

"Awww, you're such a good nurse." Blair grinned up at Nadia.

"You going to take my advice?"

"No, but that doesn't detract from you nurse-y goodness." Blair smiled.

"Hyperactive, suicidal squirrel."

Nadia shook her head, frustrated.

"I'm sorry, Nadia." Blair said quietly. "This is just important to me."

Nadia closed her eyes and rubbed the bridge of her nose for a long moment. "Read your own sign, Blair. I'll see you later."

"See you." Blair waved at Nadia and wondered if their friendship would be another one that was strained by his protesting.
