Outside the danger room, 7th period

It was Wednesday so Blair was outside of the danger room holding a sign. After talking to John yesterday and finding out about what he was planning to do this weekend, Blair had gone back to his first sign. Only with a few edits so it now read, 'Winchester = Murder'.

"First of all, insulting someone very rarely gets him to do what you want," Peter replied. "And secondly, he's acting to protect innocents which is admirable not curse-worthy."

"Please, he wouldn't do what I wanted even if I asked him nicely while giving him cookies and rubbing his feet." Blair said dryly.

"Nobody is innocent. Who's to say the people weren't attacking the non-human first?"

"Perhaps because you're accusing him and his sons of murder on a regular basis?" Peter pointed out just as dryly.

"People who have no concept of demons or supernatural are innocent in that sense. And therefore could hardly be the attackers."

"Not even regular, man. Last week I was just in costume." Blair replied. "Ha! Just because they didn't know that the person they were attacking was a non-human doesn't mean that they didn't attack him!"

Peter shook his head. "Yes, because I'm sure that made a difference." He looked closely at Blair. "Why are you criticising Mr. Winchester for the same thing you're doing? You say he assumes the demon attacks first. You assume the humans do."

"It made enough of a difference that Mr. Winchester hugged me." Blair muttered.

"Well, at least I'm not killing the humans for attacking!"

"No, you're not a warrior," Peter said with no other inflection than stating an obvious fact. "But you're still being hypocritical. Why are Mr. Winchester and those others who try to fight evil the bad guys?"

"Peter, they're going to kill them!" Blair bounced impatiently, not exactly sure why Peter wasn't understanding his point.

"Before the demons kill other people," Peter replied. "Should they ignore the issue? What if the demon kills a child or a lady after they let him live? Could you live with that on your conscience?"

"I'm not saying they shouldn't make an effort to change the situation, man." Blair shook his head and gave a little shudder at the idea of a kid-shredding monster. "I'm just saying they should try to change it without killing the monster."

"Change the monster," Peter replied. "How exactly?"

"Relocation? Negotiation?" Blair shrugged. "Maybe it's as simple as the monster's habitat has been invaded and his normal food sources are gone. All he needs is to be moved to a better location so he can eat in peace."

"Where the monster can eat humans in peace? I can't think of a place, no."

"What if his natural food is deer or chipmunks or something." Blair bounced. "Just put him in a place where there are no people!"

"If his natural food were deer or chipmunks, he wouldn't be eating humans that can fight back," Peter pointed out. "He'd eat dogs and cats and squirrels and rats. There's no reason to take on a human for food if there are other options."

"That's..." Blair paused. It was a very good point and to be honest, he didn't know exactly why the monster wouldn't eat dogs or rats.

"Maybe it was a mistake?" Sure, a mistake that whatever it was shredded people. They just tripped and fell on his claws. Or teeth. Or food chopper.

Peter raised an eyebrow.

"Well, it could be." Blair mumbled.

Peter looked down then back up at Blair. "They're trying to help. To do the best they can do and live honourably. It's a hard and dangerous enough task without being accused of murder by another who is trying to live honourably."

"...I decided not to chain myself to their car." Blair knew that Peter was right. "I'm not stopping them from doing what they're going to do, I'm just trying to make them see that it's not a good idea."

"Hurling isn't really going to help that cause," Peter said. "Not to mention that you are calling many of the rest of your classmates murderers."

"Only the ones named Winchester." Blair looked up at his sign.

"Not that we don't know why you're calling them that," Peter replied. "And every one of us who've fought evil creatures is tarred by the same brush - myself, Bel, Willow, Walter, Nadia, everyone who's defended the school." He shrugged. "It doesn't mean that I shan't do the same, but I don't particularly feel happy that someone I tend to respect looks at me with that disdain."

"Awww, man." Blair frowned and wondered why chaining himself to an oil derrick never was this hard. "I don't look at you that way it's just...this isn't their fight! They're jumping into the middle of someone else's battle."

Peter would have pointed out that the oil derrick didn't talk back, but he didn't know Blair's thoughts. He shrugged. "I'm a...I'm a knight. I'm sworn to protect those who can't protect themselves. I also lived through the Blitz when the US wouldn't help fight Germany because it was 'someone else's battle.' I don't believe it should matter if you can help."
