Saturday evening, just outside the school grounds

There really was something irresistable to the trolls about the giant castle thing at the top of the hill.

I mean, come on! Trolls, castle . . . it was like a match made in heaven!

So, once they'd made lots of good headway pillaging and rampaging through the town, the trolls started on their way up the hill, aimed for the gates to the school, grinning and slathering and singing creepy, troll-y songs of glee.

"Point that thing somewhere else, Anders!" Bel snarled.

That just made Anders get a tighter grip on the gun. "How do you know my name? Who the frak are you?"

"I'm Belthazor!" he snapped.

"Bel?" Anders repeated incredulously. "Oh. Right. Demon. Sorry, man, you, uh -- you're usually a little --"

He managed to stop himself before he said "cuter."

"Different-looking."

"Best form to fight in," Bel growled. He smirked. "Don't worry, I can change back."

"Good," Anders said, not bothering to say that he liked Bel better the other way. He figured that was pretty obvious. "'cause these frakkers might be a little too much excitement for me."

"My fireballs aren't doing very much," Bel said. "They're resistant to fire."

"One of 'em turned to stone when I shot it," Anders replied. "Bullets seem to work okay, which I'm guessing means knives and swords will probably do the trick."

Bel hefted the sword Cameron had given him. "Good," he said.

Anders grinned. "So I finally get to see you in action."

"You haven't seen anything yet," Bel said. "If I find out these things kidnapped Phoebe, I'll kill every last one of them with my bare hands if I have to."

"She's missing?" Anders asked. "Gods, is anybody else missing?"

He readjusted his grip on the rifle and double-checked to make sure he had ammo. "Let me help?"

"Phoebe and Lana," Bel confirmed. "I don't know about anybody else."

He looked over Anders and his weapon. "If that thing hurts them, have at it."

Anders nodded. "You got it, man."

One of the trolls swaggered up toward Anders and Bel, club raised to attack.

Bel held out his sword in front of him, ready for the attack. "Stay behind me," he growled at Anders.

Anders nodded. He did have a snarky reply in mind to the effect of "thought it was the other way around," but now? So not the time for that.

He triple-checked his gun again to make sure it was reloaded, patted the side of his jacket for the Walther PPK sidearm he had stashed away, and fell in behind Bel.

The troll roared and brought his club down toward Bel's head.

Bel sidestepped the blow, spinning around and swing the sword, slicing through the troll's wrist. It roared in pain, took a step back, then picked up its club with its good hand.

Anders brought the rifle up and fired, aiming for the troll's club hand rather than trying to take a kill shot.

The troll flailed and dropped the club again as the bullets hit its hand. It lowered its head and lumbered forward at full speed toward Anders and Bel.

Bel braced himself with the sword held in front of him, stabbing at the troll as it ran at him.

Which left Anders a little bit hesitant. He didn't trust his aim well enough in this sort of situation to try and shoot around Bel, and he sure as hell didn't want to hit Bel with a bullet or three -- so he darted just a step or two to the side and brought up the Walther PPK instead, waiting, but not firing.

The troll impaled itself on Bel's sword. In its death throes, it spun around Bel and threw itself at Anders.

Not that Anders was, as of yet, aware that it was dying. He fired off a couple of shots that probably went wide, given that he was also, you know, trying to leap sideways at the same time.
