Marie realized that she hadn't met any new people yet. She had seen the signs for Anders and Nadia's party, but she didn't think she was ready to be quite that sociable yet.

So she settled in to the common room with some pizza and the season one Wendy the Werewolf Stalker DVDs that she had picked up ages ago and never watched.

"Oh, cool," Cassie said. "Did you get to see any of the sights?"

"We didn't do much sightseeing," Marie admitted. "We mostly just hung out with his friends."

"Neat," Cassie said. "You should get him to show you around next time."

Marie smiled. "We like it here better."

"Yeah, given what's going on? I kinda like it better here, too," Cassie said.

"What's going on in your New York?" Marie asked.

"Oh, superhuman registration act, heroes fighting heroes, Thor killing Goliath, fun times," Cassie said, bitterly.

"That sucks," Marie said. "They're trying to pass the mutant registration act in my dimension. Not that I'm likely to go back there any time soon."

"How come?" Cassie asked.

"My parents sort of don't like the fact that I'm a mutant," Marie said with a shrug. "And then there was this whole thing where I was kidnapped by evil mutants."

"Ugh," Cassie said. "My mom and stepdad hate the fact I'm a hero. And I've been kidnapped more times than I can count."

"What's your power?" Marie asked. "I've only been kidnapped twice."

"Well, I didn't have my power yet when I got kidnapped," Cassied said. "I can change my size. Shrink and grow."

Marie nodded. "That's a cool power. I can't touch people. My skin hurts them."

Cassie put that together with the streak.

"Wait, you're Rogue?"

"Apparently in some universes," Marie replied. "I just found out I had powers back in September. A few people here know alternate universe versions of me who go by that name."

"Wow," Cassie said. "That's... kinda cool."

Marie shrugged. "I guess she's a superhero or something. I'm not."

"You're not?" Cassie said.

"I don't think I am," Marie said.

"Well, then I guess you're not," Cassie said. "Cause being a hero's all in the attitude, I think."

"Is that what makes you a hero?" Marie asked.

"Yeah," Cassie said. "And it's what makes my friend Kate a hero, and she doesn't even have any powers."

"I think my powers are more of a nuisance than anything," Marie admitted.

"Yeah, the whole not touching thing has to suck," Cassie said.
