Lana looked startled. "What?" She turned and saw the man in the doorway. "Oh, no. I think they're harmless. Kind of cute actually."

She blushed a little and stepped forward extending her hand. "I'm sorry. I'm being rude. Hello, my name is Lana Lang."

"Well I reckon do them come at ya, I'll shoot 'em for ya."

He smiled wide and took up her hand, bowing over it and pattin' the top with his other hand. "Lana Lang. You're just about as purty as fresh-churned butter. No need to be sorry for it either. I'm Jed Clampett with them school folks just comin' by to see how ya room fair's for ya."

"Well, thank you, Mr. Clampett," Lana said, blushing a bit over the compliment. "I like the room very much. Jim and I are very happy here."

He frowned. "Jim? What does this Jim got to do with your room? Ya hidin' a boy in here somewhere's, young missy?"

"Um..." Lana hesitated. There was clearly only one bed in the room, which pretty much gave away that she and Jim were sleeping together if she admitted he lived here. On the other hand, if he had a list of students in each room and she lied...

"Jim's my boyfriend," she finally settled for. "He thinks it's a nice room too." Not giving anything away, but not lying either.

"I see. Well now that makes a bit a difference now don't it? Nice room for everyone all 'round."

Jed smiled but had one more question before he scooted on out the door. "He doesn't keep any of them skin picture books layin' 'round does he?"

Lana looked a little shocked. "Why no," she said. "I don't believe he does."

Though now that he'd mentioned it, she was wondering about it. She'd have to ask Jim later.

He nodded, giving her a big smile. "That's good. Wouldn't want to have to confyscate 'em. Well now little lady, I don't believe it proper for me to be goin' all through your things here. So I'll be biddin' ya a good day now, ya hear?"

Lana smiled at him. "Thanks, Mr. Clampett. It was nice to meet you. You have a good day, too."
