Dorm Inspection - Wednesday Afternoon

Hide the dirty magazines and booze, shine your shoes and make sure the laundry basket is sealed so the smell doesn't kill anyone. It's dorm inspection time!

Delores knelt down to give the puppy a good pat. "Well, I'm not sure what the rules are about pets in the dorms, but I think we can let Scout by. He seems like a very good puppy, yes he is, he's a very good puppy!" This last bit was directed at the dog and said in a very cutesy, baby talk kind of way.

Sam managed not to snicker, only because he and Dawn were both guilty of the same kind of speech sometimes. "Thank you, ma'am. Scout and I both appreciate that."

Delores offered him a wink. "It'll be our little secret, Sam. Don't you worry about a thing."

Dawn had an armful of books and stopped in the hallway when she saw Delores. "Um, hi?"

"Hello there! Delores Herbig, as in 'her big brown eyes'? I'm with the school board. You must be Dawn Summers."

"Uh, yes," Dawn smiled hesitantly, having spaced on the inspection completely. She tried not to look too suspicious, but in her experience, school board members weren't much with the good guyness. "How do you become a school board member?"

"Well it's always been my goal to help the community!" Delores gave Dawn a large grin. "And I had a bit of spare cash tucked away and figured 'well, why not donate it to a good school and do my part to help educate the youngsters?'"

"That's very generous of you," Dawn smiled, and it was probably good that she'd never actually met the Mayor of Sunnydale before he turned into a giant demon snake. "Why did you pick Fandom?"

"Well, honey, it's a good school! It's just the sort I wish I'd had the chance to go to when I was your age."

"...really?"

"Well, of course! I tell you, I would've turned out a whole lot different if I'd had a place like this to call home when I was a teenager,"

Somehow Dawn didn't doubt that in the least. "Oh? Where did you go to school?"

Delores waved a hand. "Oh, just PS ~~handwavey number~~. Nothing nearly so special or exciting as Fandom High School."

"Did you mean for it to be this exciting?" Dawn asked, still thinking the school board was evil. "How come?"

"All these different people to meet? Are you kidding? And the excellent life experiences. You really have an extraordinary opportunity to learn here, and frankly, Dawn, it disturbs me that you're not embracing it 100%."

"Oh, I'm all about the embracing," Dawn grinned, "and the people are great, and the classes are interesting." Sometimes a little too interesting.

"Now there's the attitude I like to see. Nothing gets you further in this world than a good smiling face, Dawn, remember that.'

"I will," she promised, wondering where her roommate was. Or his cute wee puppy.
