Fourth Floor Common Room [late evening]

Aravis could, once again, not sleep. So tonight she was curled up on the couch (where she had absolutely not fallen asleep the night before) and was watching whatever had come up on the television while sipping tea and poking at a roll of something called Rolos that she'd handwavily gotten earlier, along with a heap of other candies.

She would probably welcome company. And maybe share her candy. Maybe.

Oh, Seely was sticking around to watch this. "That's what Jared says every Halloween too," he said. "Except for the part about wine stains."

"Every what?"

"Halloween," Seely said, wondering briefly if he could get Aravis to jump on the furniture in while in her current state. "It's a holiday where children dress up and extort candy from people in the neighbourhood. Jared is always just like you are now afterwards."

"And you never are," Aravis said. She was about three skittles away from vibrating. "That sounds like fun! Every day should be Halloween! I have plenty of clothes and can dress up any day."

"It's a natural high with me," Seely deadpanned and shook his head. "It's a special kind of dressing up. Costumes, not just fancy clothes."

"Why?" she asked, bouncing without meaning to. "I like dressing in costumes but why do that and why do they get candy and what sort of holiday is this and do you think I am too old at fifteen to count as a child to the people who would hand out candy because I am certainly not a child but I do like candy and I would dress in a costume if it meant I could have chocolate."

"I'm not sure," Seely said. "All I know is that it's got something to do with All Saints' Day the next day. And no, it's not too old here, because it'll be mostly be the teachers handing out candy. Although considering how buzzy you are, they might cut you off."

"I'm not buzzy and no one would cut me off," Aravis said, frowning. "Why would they do that? The teachers are not that cruel. I did not know of the side effects! I am merely making up the lost sugar of my youth! I never had enough to produce this!"

"You're so buzzy I bet that if I touched you, you would vibrate," Seely said. "And it's being cruel to be kind to cut a junkie off from their supply."

A smirk grew on his face. "In fact...I think I might cut you off right now."
He snatched at the packet in her hand.

Aravis squirmed away, her eyes wide. "No! No cutting off! Why would you do that? That's very unkind!"

Seely made another attempt for the candy. "Because you're going to crash and crash hard, and the more you eat the harder you'll crash."

"I will not!"

Her reflexes were not good enough to keep Seely from grabbing the candy.

The flailing, however, caused her to fall off the couch.

"...that was intentional."

Carefully holding the candy out of reach, Seely bent over to look at Aravis. "I warned you."

"I wanted to be on the floor," she insisted.

"Uh-huh," Seely said, clearly not believing.

"Now, give that back," she commanded, pointing at the candy and holding her hand out.

Seely looked at the candy thoughtfully. "No."

"Give it back!" she said. "I'll fight you for it!"

"Really?" Seely asked. "You're going to fight me for it?"

She nodded, climbing back onto the couch. "Give it back, please."

Seely very carefully selected one piece of candy, then held the bags out of reach. "No, I'm afraid, you'll have to fight me for them."

He ate the piece of candy.

"Give it back!" she said, pouncing and attempting to retrieve the candy.

Aravis had kind of forgotten she was much more wee than him. And also hadn't really accounted for the fact that Seely might not mind being tackled by her.

Seely...really didn't mind being tackled. "Nuh-uh," he replied, laughing and attempting to curl his free arm around her waist.

Aravis frowned more and made grabby hands at the candy, completely ignoring his arm and happily climbing all over him without thinking about it.

"You're cute when you're stubborn," Seely remarked, curling his arm tighter and continuing to keep the candy away from her.
