Fourth floor common room: Thursday morning [before workshops]

It was Thursday morning. It was Karal's last day of classes. He'd woken up early, as per usual, and for some reason he thought it would be a good idea to attempt breakfast.

Karal had never cooked before. Ever. But there were eggs in the fridge, and milk, and cheese. A further rummage turned up bacon, onions and some mushrooms, and, well, a lot of other things he didn't recognise. He left those where they were.

"I think I can make an omelette from these," he told Altra, who was perched on a chair, watching him. "I am fairly certain I know what one is."

:This will end well,: the 'cat drawled, shaking his head.

"No, I am sure I know what it is. Eggs and other things, all cooked up together." He surveyed the ingredients and nodded firmly, pulling out a frying pan. "It cannot be that difficult."

Altra facepawed. Luckily there was coffee already brewed, which Karal did know how to make.

"...you haven't had hot chocolate yet?" Luke grinned. "It's a drink. And so, so good. Just, um, don't put ice cream in it. It gets kind of gloppy."

"I had a s'more," Gavin said lamely. "That's not the same thing, is it?"

"No," Luke said, eager to impart the wisdom of his year on Gavin. "But being allowed to burn food on a stick is kind of great, huh? Hot chocolate comes from a package and you add water and sometimes there are little scary dried marshmallows in it, but they're not good. And you can't put them on sticks--they're too small."

"Chocolate is in powder form too?" Gavin asked. "Or is it a special kind of chocolate powder that's not really chocolate?"

"I haven't had Artoo check its molecular content or anything--" after a few weeks of military rations, Luke had learned fast that he Just Didn't Need to Know That Badly, "but it tastes right."

"This planet really likes to put chocolate into things, doesn't it?"

Luke glanced over at the breakfast things. "I don't think I've ever had it with eggs," he said thoughtfully.

"I wonder if chocolate and eggs is any good," Gavin said. "I bet it tastes all right. Eggs are good and chocolate is good so together, they'll still be good."

"That makes sense to me!" Luke chirped.

No, no it didn't.

"Should we try it sometime?" Gavin asked.

"Now is a sometime!" Luke chirped. "Let's see what we can find in the cannisters! That's where Katara and I found the chocolate the first time."

And the cayenne pepper, but details, right?

"Okay!" Gavin went over to the cannisters and started pulling things open. "Tell me if you find anything good!"

Luke opened up the door to one of the cabinets. "What's a wasabi?" he asked, holding up a green tube of something.

"Something you find in a wasab's nest," Gavin said. He was completely wrong. He dug into a cannister and pulled out shrimp cocktail sauce. "What's this?"

"Red stuff," Luke told him helpfully. "Oh! Ketchup, maybe? I think it goes on hot dogs."

He was wrong.

"Does ketchup go on eggs?" Gavin asked. "Would that be good to add?"

"I don't know if ketchup goes with chocolate," Luke said thoughtfully.

"Hm." Gavin looked at the cocktail sauce. "Maybe one egg with ketchup and one with chocolate and add the wasabi?"

"Sounds good to me!" Luke said.

This was going to go so bad.

"I've never cooked anything here before," Gavin admitted. "Have you? I don't want to start a fire."

"I cooked with Hamlet when he was insane one day," Luke said casually. "It involved hitting things with a bat."

"Bats?" Gavin asked. "Did the food come out good?"

Luke didn't really remember.

"Sure!" he said.

"Should I go find something to beat the eggs with?"

"Good idea," Luke agreed. "Shells are nasty to eat here too."
