Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Aravis was bored, but didn't want to be in her room when curfew hit if she could help it. So that was why a girl and her dog were sitting on the couch, watching the only thing that had caught her attention:

Telemundo.

She had no idea why the women who spoke in another language kept screaming, or why the men wouldn't stop crying.

Mel? Also bored.

So when she flops on the couch she's actually gets absorbed by the tv and forgets to start off with some bizarre slang to confuse Aravis.

"What the rutting hell is that?"

"I'm not sure," Aravis said, tilting her head. "I think the screaming woman upset about something, but there is no explanation for why the man with the large arms keeps staring off into the distance and crying."

"Maybe he saw Umbridge naked and went blind," Mel said as she got up to get a soda. "You want a drink?"

"Sure," Aravis said. "And really, she tried to blind me the other day and now I wish she had, as I'm picturing that and wishing to gouge out my eyes."

Will was happy that Umbridge hadn't noticed that she was in a co-ed room, but still wasn't happy with the curfew. So when she heard some noise from the common room, she snuck down the hall to see what was up.

"Hey Aravis," she said cheerful as she slid quietly into a chair. "What's on?"

"Hello, Will. He did something to make her mad enough to throw water at his face," she told her, pointing at the television. "I think perhaps she's upset about the size of his upper arms. I'm not really sure since I don't know the language."

"Me neither. I've never watched one of these shows before." She stared at the TV to try and figure out what was going on. "What's with the background music?"

"It's not just me who thinks it's strange?" Aravis looked relieved. "Maybe they're upset over the music."

Mel gave a wave. "Hey. Are you new or have we just not met?"

Will waved back. "We probably just haven't met yet, since I've been here for awhile now. I'm Will. Nice to finally meet you."

"I'm Mel," she replied. "Well I guess I should get out more. Nice to meet you as well. How long have you been here?"

Anne, being the inquisitive sort, couldn't help but wander down the hallway into the common room when she heard the unintelligible voices.

When she got there, she stared at the television for a good two minutes straight before finally venturing, "They're awfully melodramatic, aren't they?"

She was an expert at melodrama. She would know.

"I think so," Aravis replied, noticing the new girl. "But then I'm also not sure what they're saying."

"Neither am I, but it sounds awfully romantic," Anne replied. Thinking over her Latin lessons from Avonlea school and applying her very scant practical experience with them, she decided, "I suppose that sounds a lot like what I always imagined Italian sounds like, and that's an awfully romantic language."

"I know where Italy is!" Aravis was very excited to know something geographical. "They have good cheese. And I suppose this does sound romantic, but the romance disappears somewhat when she's screaming so."

"You'd be melodramatic too if you saw Umbridge naked," Mel replied with a slight smirk.

Anne gaped at her, face going pale and then bright red in consternation. "How can you even joke about such an awful thing?"

"I'm evil," Mel replied. "Want a soda?"

Will waved at the other, unfamiliar redhead.

"They're being totally melodramatic. It's like they're competing to see who can be the most over the top on the show."

Anne gave Will a bright smile, red-haired solidarity making her feel a bit expansive. "Are they always like this? Is there a prize for the person who screams the most?"

Jaina frowned at the television, leaning against the back of a couch to study it. "They're very emphatic."

"Aren't they?" Aravis replied. "We're still not sure why she's screaming and he's crying. Current thoughts are that they're complaining about the music, or she's leaving him because he has a disorder that causes him to cry too much."

"Maybe he was just told he has one year before his tear ducts fall right out, and he's using them while he can," Jaina suggested.

"I think the man has a glandular problem," Mel replied. "How've you been Jaina?"

"Eight inches from everyone else at all times," Jaina said. "Aside from everything being insane, it's not bad."
