Third floor common room [evening]

It was slowly ticking towards curfew but it wasn't bothering Luke overly much. He'd discovered a marathon of old Galaxy Quest episodes and was entirely too caught up in laughing until he cried at the terrible dialogue and sound effects.

He'd made popcorn--without burning it!--and even though he'd then dumped a bag of M&Ms into it, he was up for sharing.

"Hey, Luke. What're you..." Dawn spotted the television and answered her own question. "Ooooh, good choice. And you made popcorn? My hero. Mind if I mooch?"

"Hey, Dawn," Luke said with a grin. "My popcorn is your popcorn. I added chocolate things to it, too, but they've mostly sunk to the bottom."

"Excellent," she grabbed a handful, proud of Luke's spurt of culinary prowess, "and chocolate? That's very advanced of you. I'm impressed. Hey, how's your arm? She did a number of Sam, too, but he wouldn't let me kill her either."

By the look on Dawn's face, it was probably obvious that she considered this a glaring mistake.

"It was a lucky accident," Luke admitted. "I was actually reaching for something else."

Sunflower seeds. Eww.

"She hurt Sam, too? Recently?" Luke's eyebrows furrowed.

Free food... senses... tingling...

"OOH! Popcorn!"

Sokka's hand made the trip from bowl to mouth a few times before his eyes bugged out. "CHOCOLATE popcorn!!! This is AWESOME!!!"

John followed his ears to the common room. He lounged on a chair and surveyed the TV screen. "Ah, Galaxy Quest. Nesmith was the best captain ever."

"There was more than one captain?" Luke asked, looking confused.

Poor, poor Luke.

"Well, yeah. But Nesmith is the only one worth remembering," John replied, not really helping.

Jenny paused in the doorway of the common room when she saw what was on the screen. She remembered watching this stoned when it first came on, and then later, with the rest of the Authority, high on nothing but life (all of them except the Doctor, of course). "Ah, memories."

"Memories?" Luke asked. "When were these on the first time? Did they know how terrible their special effects were? And doesn't that woman get cold?"

"Nah, at the time that was cutting edge," Jenny said as she came further into the room and looked around for a seat. "And I'm told it's very warm under stage lights. She was probably the most comfortable person on set."

Sam peeked his head in the common room, and then came in when he saw it wasn't empty. "Hey," he said, waving.

Luke, after his conversation with Dawn, glanced down at Sam's hand just slow enough to be noticed. "Hi," he said with a small smile. "We have popcorn and stupid television."

"That's always a good combination," Sam replied, putting his hand back a little when he saw Luke looking. "I had a little run-in with Umbridge," he added.

"Hey," Sokka said without looking, waving a chinchilla at him."

Sam snickered. "Hey. Is that a pet or a student?"

Tonight, Sokka checked all the common rooms before setting up. And lo and behold, there were other people watching TV just before curfew.

He walked in, carrying his chinchilla and his sign which now said

FANDOM HIGH 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 3rd DAILY
"If anyone, from this point forward, is found breaking any decree I have set forth, punishment will be swift and unquestioning"
CURFEW-BREAKING AND PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION PARTY


"DUUUUDE!" he shouted. "Space Battles! Awesome!!!"

And a million geeks wept.

Luke frowned. "Space Battles has the whiny family. This is the captain who's only interested in having sex. I think they're different."

Pause. "But I might be wrong."

"Whatever," Sokka replied, with a shrug. "This one's got lots of stuff blowing up in outer space, right? That's good enough for me!"

Andros was attempting to be more social so he had actually ventured out of his room and had gone looking for a common room that had people in it, "hello," he said when he entered the third floor common room.

Luke waved back. "Hello!"

"What are you watching?" Andros asked, not recognising what was on.

Checking out which common rooms were busy in the evening seemed to be a force of habit for Will, so when she found the one a floor down to be full of people, she waved and grabbed a seat on the couch.

"Oh, hey, Galaxy Quest! Is this the old series or the new one?"

"I don't know," Luke admitted. "It's got a guy named Nesmith running things. Does that help?"

Will grinned.

"Ah, must be the old ones then, back when all the special effects were really cheesy, and the girls all wore open shirts," she said. "Are these ones any good?"
