Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

"Can you hand me the ginger?" Ronan asked, as he ground some spices with a mortar and pestle. "The fresh, I mean." The fragrant smells of cooking curry were already pervading the common room, and probably making their way through the rest of the dorms. When Isabel handed over the asked-for ginger, he added some to the mixture in the mortar, and went back to grinding. "Thanks. I hope this isn't too spicy for whoever else comes along," he added.

"That's a good plan," she nodded. "We might have to do something similar. I guess it depends if there's anything going on in town."

"I'm sure something will be going on." Meg said. "If not, there's always the bar."

"Maybe Devil's Nest. You can dance there. Although Caritas with the zombie band on Halloween would be oddly appropriate," Isabel chuckled.

"Ugh. Those guys are so creepy." said Meg. "I don't know how Dick touches those things every week."

"I couldn't do it," she agreed. "Way too nasty."

"They do know how to play those instruments though." Meg said. "Makes you wonder what they did before the whole zombie thing happened."

"And who they pissed off to wind up as zombies," Isabel pondered. "Somebody pretty powerful, I'd guess."

Meg shrugged. "I'm clueless when it comes to this whole supernatural thing."

"Oh so am I pretty much," she said. "I've just watched a few too many horror movies. So I can make some guesses on the very basics."

"I'm a fan of the cheesy horror flicks myself." Meg said. "The worse the acting the better."

"Oh absolutely. Then you can play bad movie bingo. And mark off when the comic relief dies. And when the underdressed blonde goes running up the stairs instead of out of the house like any sane person," Isabel grinned.

"Ugh. I know!" Meg said. "Those chicks in horror movies give blondes a bad name."

"Exactly. Why can't it be a brunette for once?" she asked. "But instead the brunette's usually the quiet, geeky girl that winds up saving the day."

"Those Hollywood writers have a prejudice against blondes." she said. "I'm sure there was some sort of blonde trauma they suffered in high school."

"They probably got turned down when the asked some girl out," Isabel nodded. "And now innocent blondes will forever pay for her mistake."

"Lucky there's some kick ass blondes around to set people straight." Meg said. "I'm working on the kick ass part anyways."

"How's that coming along?" she asked. "I'm not great. But if you want I could meet you in the gym one day and show you some of the stuff I was taught."

"That'd be a big help." Meg said. "I'm okay but I'm not exactly ready to defend myself. Cassandra and Dean have been helping me along."

"Aeryn showed me a few holds. I was able to use one to take down Johnny once," Isabel grinned. "He wasn't expecting it at all. I don't know Cassandra, but I'm sure Dean knows what he's doing."

"Cassandra's really good. I think she might be a ninja or something." Meg said. "Like, a real ninja."

"Really? She wouldn't be the first one to be a student here," she replied. "But in that case I'm sure she knows what she's doing and you'll learn lots."

"I hope so." she said. "I've gotten lucky in this whole not being attacked thing so far but I doubt that'll last long."

"Well fortunately the vampires aren't an issue anymore," Isabel said. "I think I can deal with anything but vampires. Unless it Angel. He's easy to deal with."

"Why's he easy to deal with?" Meg asked.

"For one? Even though he's a vampire, he has a soul, so he's not going to immediately go for your neck. Unless your a nun. And even then, I think he'll only nibble," she chuckled, remembering a class a long time ago.
