Third floor common room [morning]

After spending most of the night in a Jedi healing trance, Luke didn't look like he'd had a wall dropped on him the night before.

But he was very, very tired of his room. And he was hungry.

So over Artoo's protests, he was in the common room attempting to make breakfast.

Since he wasn't making cereal, it wasn't going very well.

Luke hadn't asked him. "He knows my thoughts on these sorts of situations."

"Uh...huh." Dawn began covertly searching Luke for signs of a concussion or brain damage. "So, what? Gonna be best friends with this guy now?"

Luke shook his head. "Nah. I don't think we have a lot in common. But I don't want him to think he's all along in the world and use that to plot some kind of giant weapon that would kill the rest of us."

Okay, when he put it that way, she could see his point, but..."Does it have to be you?"

"I don't see anyone really wanting to do it," Luke admitted.

"You're too good for your own good," Dawn frowned, realizing how dumb that sounded, but unable to come up with anything better.

Luke smiled, suddenly shy. "Not really."

"Yes, really." She peeked over at him, not sure what the shyness was about. "I don't know that I could do it."

Luke shrugged. "It's just me. It doesn't make me a better person or anything."

Except for the part where it probably did. "You'll be careful?"

Luke gave her a bright smile. "Always. He caught me with a net. I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm mentally deficient."

Imagining Luke with his head and shoulder in a butterfly net, Dawn couldn't help her sudden case of the giggles.

Luke laughed, too. "It was a really big net!"

"Was there a handle? Oooh, you could be a butterfly next time you need a costume for something!"

Luke sulked. "It's not funny."

Ignore the part where he was trying not to laugh.

"I have antennae somewhere, if you want to borrow them." Alien antennae, but still.

Luke snickered. "That would be quite a look."

"Wouldn't it?" She laughed. "You'd be memorable, I bet."

"I'd prefer to not be that kind of memorable."

She pouted. "What about a moth? Those are kind of macho."

"Only compared to a butterfly," Luke replied.

"Bat?"

"Is that a very dignified animal?" Luke asked.

"Um." She wasn't sure where 'rabies-carrying flying rodent' fell on the dignified-o-meter. "They're blind, so they fly using echolocation?"
