April Fools Party, Third Floor Common Room - Tuesday Night

The TV was hooked up to play only music videos and had a microphone set up with it, the pizza was fresh and tasty and there was plenty of soda for all.

A sign outside the common room read:

"I will never turn down a drink," she replied. Of course, that usually applied to alcoholic drinks. "What've you got?"

"Soda in all the flavors of the rainbow. I'd mention them by name, but I don't want to be party to product placement without a contract." He gestured to the table with cans of soda of all kinds. "Caffeine or no caffeine?"

Oh, so it was gonna be one of those parties. Eh, she could make do. "Let's go with the caffeinated. It's a vice, right?"

"Diet ranks right up there. Keeps you awake and it's slightly less bad for you," she said immediately. "I'm there."

"I wonder why diet is a vice sometimes. I mean, I get the immediate effect, but you can get something good out of it at the end. With caffeine and other vices, you end up with leached bone marrow and cavities or needing liposuction."

Brooke frowned. "Oh, I know I shouldn't ask this. Leached bone marrow?"

"Caffeine leeches away your bone marrow like a leech with blood. Or leaches with an A. I'm not entirely sure of the spelling, but it generally doesn't end well."

There was a long pause. "Okay, so how 'bout we go caffeine free?"

"Caffeine free it is." He retrieved an appropriately caffeine-free drink and handed it over. "I've ruined caffeine for you forever, haven't I?"

"Until I forget all about it, yes," she said, taking the drink. "Which will be sometime after tonight, or maybe next month, and thanks for that."

"I have to admit something. I'm really being paid by a secret organization of protesters who'd like to see most of the country's dentists go out of business. They've decided that the only way to do that is to stop people drinking caffeinated soda so their teeth don't rot as much."

She looked at him funny for a moment before deciding she had to play along a little. "Why do they want dentists out of business?"

"Revenge," Ferris replied, still keeping a straight face. "After so many traumatic childhood experiences with sharp tools, drills and rough dentists, they've decided to strike back."

"I get that a lot." He saw someone walk in that caught his attention. "I'd better mingle, see if I can put my brain to good use and get people into the party. Enjoy your non-caffeinated drink. See you later?"
