Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Given how many of her conversations that afternoon had turned to food, Sookie had found herself kind of homesick in spite of herself, especially after facing the prospect of eating what she found in the common room.

So, she took it upon herself to run out and grab some fresh ingredients, and returned back to the common room to boil some rice and throw everything moddable that she'd bought and found that looked good into the pot to make some jambalaya.

She'd taken a little more care and put together a berry cobbler, admittedly using frozen berries. Her gran had always said it tasted the same anyway, so long as you used enough butter.

She kept the TV on while she cooked and familiarized herself with the kitchen, and tried to adjust to the technology and appliances that were ten years ahead of her time. It was fairly easy to figure out, even if some of the commercials threw her for a loop.

"Okay, and let me add that there are a lot of great places to eat dinner," she said. They were talking about dinner right?

Um.

"Steak, Chinese, pizza... whatever sounds good."

They had to do a date first. That'd even been his stipulation.

He was a genius.

"We'll see what we feel like on the night?"

She nodded. "Yep, sounds great," she agreed.

A beat.

"You have any other girls hitting on you today?" Because she could only imagine.

Priestly laughed. "Does walking up and kissing me 'cause she thought I was someone else count?"

"Yah, oh my gosh it does!" she laughed. "Who was it?"

"Peyton. She invited me over to compare music."

"You're going to have so many girlfriends, Priestly," she said, shaking her head. "But what an awesome way to start out here, yah?"

"You think?" Priestly wasn't so sure. It was one of the few parts of his life he didn't have that much confidence in.

"Sure," she said, being positive but wondering at his hesitation there. "I mean, don't you think? Girls like individuality."

"Remember that thing I said about girls laughing in my face?"

Amber frowned. "That won't happen here," she said. "If it does, I'll kick their asses."

...

"But why? Is it the hair? Piercing's? What?"

"Mostly, yeah. Girls back home are more interested in the pretty boys with swoopy hair."

Oh. Yeah. Well, there were those kind of guys around here too.

"People here tend to focus on the person and not so much the appearance. Though seriously, trust me, you're hot and you got more than just that going for you."

Amber was really good for ego's.

Wow, yeah she was. Of course, he'd gotten plenty of snap judgments the other way around before he'd gone punk. It all frustrated him.

"That's good to hear. I hope you're right, about the appearance thing."

"Time will tell, right?" she said positively. "And if not, well then just come to my room." Hee.
