Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Given how many of her conversations that afternoon had turned to food, Sookie had found herself kind of homesick in spite of herself, especially after facing the prospect of eating what she found in the common room.

So, she took it upon herself to run out and grab some fresh ingredients, and returned back to the common room to boil some rice and throw everything moddable that she'd bought and found that looked good into the pot to make some jambalaya.

She'd taken a little more care and put together a berry cobbler, admittedly using frozen berries. Her gran had always said it tasted the same anyway, so long as you used enough butter.

She kept the TV on while she cooked and familiarized herself with the kitchen, and tried to adjust to the technology and appliances that were ten years ahead of her time. It was fairly easy to figure out, even if some of the commercials threw her for a loop.

Hurley was on his way back from work when he poked his head into the common room.

"Hey," he greeted. "I don't think we've met and stuff."

"Hiya," Sookie said, tossing off a little wave as she stirred. "I'm Sookie. Are you new, too?"

She had her mental shielding up as a matter of course. Dorms were waaaay too populated for her to feel too comfortable just yet.

After the picnic started to wind down, Priestly set about exploring the dorm building. He'd located his new room, put his stuff away, and scoped out the room numbering for the two ladies expecting visits, and was now following his nose to the fourth floor common room.

He smiled when he spotted one of the girls from the shuttle. "Hey. Smells good."

"Whoa, dude. Nice hair," Hurley said.

"Thank you," Sookie said, pleased that she apparently could cook without her grandmother's supervision. "Help yourself."

Romeo flashed a grin at the new guy, whose outfit seemed as though it would be at home in Verona. "Hello, person I am yet to meet."

Anemone regarded the mohawk bemusedly. "That your natural hair color or dyed?" she asked, twirling a strand of her own pink hair around her fingers. He didn't feel like a Coralian, but it never hurt to check.

A Punk! Yeeeee!! "Hi!" Robin waved enthusiastically. "I'm Robin, welcome to Fandom!"

"God, I'm hungry, what's that smell?" Yeah, she didn't eat much this afternoon, and if someone was cooking? She was all over that.

"Jambalaya," Sookie answered, smiling over at the new girl. "And berry cobbler. Sorry, I got kinda homesick and cooked to compensate. You can help yourself, though."

"Hello again, Amber," Priestly called, from where he'd found himself a perch on the counter to dig into his jambalaya.

Romeo waved to Amber. "So how did newbie day treat you?"

"Hey Amber!" Marco said way too cheerfully.

Romeo paused on the fourth floor and decided he smelled dinner, if he could talk his way into it.

"Good evening," he greeted the blonde girl at the stove. "It smells wonderful in here. What are you making?"

"Jambalaya," she said, waving at the boy she didn't know yet. "Hi! Help yourself, if you'd like."

Seregil had given the picnic a pass, but had ventured out of his room and the smell of food had lured him into the common room a floor down. "Hello," he said, smiling at the new faces.

"Hi!" Sookie said, waving at the boy. "If you're hungry, you're welcome to help yourself. I made way too much."

Priestly nodded from where he was perched on the counter. "Yo."

Marco had smelled food. That was about all it took to get him going anywhere. The pretty girl was a bonus. "Hey there."

"Hi," Sookie said, smiling over her shoulder at the new person. "You hungry? I made a bit too much for just me."

That was the understatement of the century.

The scent of food was usually enough to lure Anemone anywhere, even from the safety of the second floor all the way up to fourth.

"Anything good on?" she asked, glancing at the television. "Or is it still re-runs season?"

"I couldn't tell you," Sookie said apologetically. "I'm apparently in the wrong decade, so it's all new to me."

She was taking it remarkably well, though, according to all appearances.

"What's that smell?" Triela asked curiously as she walked through into the common room.

"Jambalaya," Sookie replied, smiling at the new girl. "You're welcome to some if you want. I made way too much."

After getting her thing settled in her room, Harper stuck her head in the common room to get a look around. She wasn't particularly hungry after eating at the picnic. Instead, she was more interested in meeting people who lived on the floor.

"Hi!" Sookie called, waving at the girl she didn't know. "Are you new, too?"

Not ready to just go back to her room yet, Jaina wandered around for a bit, drawn into the common room more by the smell of food and curiosity than the people. "Because everyone didn't make enough friends today?" she guessed.

"More like 'cause I was homesick," Sookie said, smiling at the new girl. "And I made too much food. Want some?"

Robin made for the common rooms as soon as he got off work. He'd missed the picnic, but he'd be darned if he was going to miss out on saying hi to the new people.

"Hi!" he waved to Sookie and everybody. "What smells so good?"

Sookie stared at the frog in complete, utter confusion and mentally thanked her better sensibilities. That was the only reason she hadn't outright shrieked.

Sure there'd been a picnic earlier, but John couldn't pass up a common room of home cooked food. "I love when new people cook!"

Oh, look, there was a girlfriend waving. A girlfriend who was actually making sort of an attempt to be social for longer than the picnic.
