Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Given how many of her conversations that afternoon had turned to food, Sookie had found herself kind of homesick in spite of herself, especially after facing the prospect of eating what she found in the common room.

So, she took it upon herself to run out and grab some fresh ingredients, and returned back to the common room to boil some rice and throw everything moddable that she'd bought and found that looked good into the pot to make some jambalaya.

She'd taken a little more care and put together a berry cobbler, admittedly using frozen berries. Her gran had always said it tasted the same anyway, so long as you used enough butter.

She kept the TV on while she cooked and familiarized herself with the kitchen, and tried to adjust to the technology and appliances that were ten years ahead of her time. It was fairly easy to figure out, even if some of the commercials threw her for a loop.

[open as common rooms tend to be! look, the big posts were scaring me.]

"I'm in room 417 with another new girl, Jill," said Harper. "Gosh, everyone here is so friendly. It's so different from what I left behind at my old school."

"Yah? Where is that if I can ask?"

"Tribeca Prep in New York City. It was a pretty good school, but we had a mean girl with a huge clique of followers," said Harper. "After my best friend left last year, it was pretty lonely."

"Oh, wow, like a private school?" asked Amber. If so, this girl must be pretty rich.

"Yeah. It was a really small student body, too," said Harper.

"How come you came here?" she asked.

"My best friend goes here, and when I visited Alex during Parents Weekend, I decided I liked this place better than my old school," said Harper. "It took a little bit of begging and pleading, but my mom eventually gave in."

"Oh, excellent," Amber said, grinning. Amber thought she knew Alex. "I think you'll like it here. It's fun if not strange at times."

Harper assumed Amber was talking about how there were foreign students, as Alex and Hurley had tried to tell her. Of course, she missed the fact that they were trying to warn her about how special the students were.

"That's good to know. I can't wait for classes to begin," said Harper.

Amber was going to be nice and not break her brain mainly because mun is dead of pinging omg. "Yah? I kind of am too. Only so much of a break I can take before boredom sets in."
