5th Floor Common Room, Friday Evening -- PARTY

There were lots of delicious smells coming from the fifth floor common room, for Ronan, faced with hosting a potluck, had decided that he couldn't but go overboard with his own dishes: a chicken curry, thick, with lots of vegetables, and pot of vegetarian chili for those who preferred their food... not made of meat.

Ronan didn't quite understand the concept, but he liked vegetables anyway, so it all worked out.

There was a small sign posted on the door, announcing: "Ronan's Birthday Potluck! All Welcome."

Yeah, he was going to get a blank look for that, and maybe a slight twitch before she got it under control. "Planning on saving our galaxy from its snacklessness?"

"The thought had crossed my mind. But I think you guys have bigger things to worry about right now. And in the future, from what I understand." Which was weird still, but whatever. He'd met two Gavins, two Bens, and now two Tahiris. He could deal.

"Don't remind me," Tahiri said, grimacing. "Wait . . . does this mean you've met another me?"

John nodded affirmatively. "Yeah, I spent some time on Eclipse and other places with Jaina."

"Oh." Tahiri chewed on her lower lip, then smiled. "Well, it's . . . nice to finally meet you anyway. This never gets less weird."

"I know, it was weird knowing the teenage Luke and Gavin before meeting the adults, and then I got to watch Ben before he could walk so..." Awkward!

Tahiri just made a weird choking noise and turned bright red.

John was mean and grinned. "You know, I was really glad to hear from Ben that he'd found himself a nice girl to date. That kid deserves to get out and be a kid once in a while."

Tahiri really, really hated not having any words to say, but with the flailing and the sputtering, all she could manage was "Um."

It was actually fun to watch. "I knew you'd agree. Sometimes I think the whole Skywalker clan is genetically incapable of relaxing on their own accord."

"I wouldn't know anything about that," Tahiri finally blurted out in a strangled voice.

She was kind of an awful liar.

And really, there was no need to lie. "Really? That's sorta disappointing."

Tahiri eyed him suspiciously. "Why is it disappointing?"

"'Cause I seemed to remember the kid smiling when certain someones were mentioned and it was a good thing," John informed her, being nice for once.

"Oh." Tahiri blinked . . . and then stared at him. "You mean -- and -- oh, Sithspit, you knew?"

"Well yeah," John scoffed because this was all so obvious. "I like to think I helped advise him down the path to actual dates."

And yet she hadn't been killed yet, Tahiri noted, so she relaxed a little. "You were behind the bowling idea?"

"In favor of, yes," John nodded. "I take no credit for the kid's ideas."

"Then I guess I owe you for that one." This was still kind of weird and awkward. "It was fun . . . except for the shoes."

"They're always that ugly, I promise." It was unfortunate.

"I have more of a problem with the required part, and I'm not telling that story again," Tahiri informed him.
