Dorm Pool, Tuesday Evening - PARTY

The day had flown by, and before she knew it, Hinata and Amber, who’d cut out of rehearsal early (small sacrifices), were down in the pool area and setting up the decorations for Turtle’s (hopefully) surprise birthday party. Streamers and balloons in gold, green, and purple matched the tablecloths, disposable plates and utensils. Colour co-ordination was a go.

It took them awhile to get things all set up, but eventually it was accomplished, and a sign at the door to the pool proclaimed ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURTLE!!!’ in, of course, green and gold glitter.

She tilted her head. "I think they might be?" Ino said, frowning slightly. "I think Johnny's got one on the island, anyway?"

"Ooooooooooooooooo," Dinah said, getting many, many ideas that would make Barbara facepalm. "Maybe I can ask for one on my birthday, if they're allowed! I'll have to ask Johnny!"

"When's your birthday?" Ino asked, since it was always a good question. "And do you think you've a chance to actually get one? Aren't they, like, expensive?"

Dinah nodded, then said, "But! Not as expensive as a car? And my sister just got a motorcycle a month ago, and maybe if I can convince her that I'll be really really responsible with it, and use it to commute to college--" Or crime scenes. "-- or something, maybe I can talk her into one? She has the money. And she's not spending it on much else." She might have already been working out arguments for one in her head. "And I turn 17 on the 23rd. I'm supposed to go home for a short visit that week. If I start talking her into it now, maybe she'll let me get one?"

Ino took a moment to decipher all of that. "...on the 23rd? Yesterday?"

Dinah blinked, remembering the date, then grinned. "No, whoops! 23rd of next month. I think we're in the middle of Finals by then, maybe. But at least I don't have any Thursday classes to mess it up."

She laughed. "I'm the 23rd of September," she shared. "So we're the same day, just months apart. Hopefully it'll stay not-too-busy, you know? More fun to have a party if you're not run ragged!"

"Exactly. Hunh, do you think it'll be warm enough to have it on the beach, maybe?" Dinah asked, looking hopeful. "Maybe not to swim, but I could invite people for a cook-out or something."

"Maybe do it out on the deck?" she said, thinking out loud. "You could do a barbecue then, and not have to worry 'bout getting sand everywhere."

"Ooo, that'll work." Dinah nodded. "And a nice break from any exam stuff going on, too."

"If you're the sort to stress about exams," Ino laughed. "I don't really worry, I admit."

It was easy not to worry when anything she did here didn't count back home.
