Dorm Pool, Tuesday Evening - PARTY

The day had flown by, and before she knew it, Hinata and Amber, who’d cut out of rehearsal early (small sacrifices), were down in the pool area and setting up the decorations for Turtle’s (hopefully) surprise birthday party. Streamers and balloons in gold, green, and purple matched the tablecloths, disposable plates and utensils. Colour co-ordination was a go.

It took them awhile to get things all set up, but eventually it was accomplished, and a sign at the door to the pool proclaimed ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURTLE!!!’ in, of course, green and gold glitter.

"Just making sure that this hermit didn't live in your neighborhood or something," he teased.

"Oh, dude," Hurley said. "Definitely not."

"Good because while I know we just dealt with birds that throw shit, people that throw it is still a little new to me," Hannibal explained.

Hurley shuddered. "Man, those things were creepy."

"You're telling me," Hannibal said by way of agreement. "One of them chucked a rock at my head."

"Ow," Hurley said. "I'm guessing it missed?"

"No, it got me," he said and laughed ruefully. "It wasn't that big a rock and it was only one. Just gave me a small headache."

"Ow," Hurley said. "That sucks, dude."

"I recovered, don't worry," he said and laughed. "I've got a hard head. People can try to beat on it but I recover."

"So, if the birds come again, I should hide behind your head?" Hurley said.

"Well, that might not work out," Hannibal said. "Especially if I duck."

"Yeah, plus you're head's not quite... big enough," Hurley said with a laugh.

"Let my ego get a little bigger and maybe then we'll have a good shield," he said and patted his head. "Should just take a few more compliments for that one to happen."

Hurley chuckled. "So in case of invasion, tell Hannibal he's awesome and pretty and everything should be okay. Got it."

"Exactly!" Hannibal laughed. "Get my ego the size of a small country and we'll all be safe from projectiles."

"Man, what happens if we make other parts of you bigger?" Hurley said.

Pause.

"...forget I said that."

"Not a problem," Hannibal said, laughing. "I know what you meant and what you didn't mean."

"Yeah. Uhhh, not really... you know, I'm just gonna stop now. Cause otherwise I'm going to talk about it, and that'd get more awkward," Hurley said, the poor dope.

"Did you turn into a tiny version of yourself the other weekend?" Hannibal asked, giving Hurley a pat on the shoulder and changing the subject.

"Dude, I was nine again," Hurley said. "It was awesome."

"I was seven so you had me beat my two years," Hannibal said, nodding at Hurley's assessment. "Playing in the mud was so much fun."

"Yeah," Hurley said. "I was... weirdly responsible. But then, I was raised that way."

"I tried to get Angela to eat a crayon," he shared because it was still funny.

"Ha! I got to read to Claire. That was pretty cool," Hurley said.

"Oh yeah? What'd you read?" Hannibal asked.
