Dorm Pool, Tuesday Evening - PARTY

The day had flown by, and before she knew it, Hinata and Amber, who’d cut out of rehearsal early (small sacrifices), were down in the pool area and setting up the decorations for Turtle’s (hopefully) surprise birthday party. Streamers and balloons in gold, green, and purple matched the tablecloths, disposable plates and utensils. Colour co-ordination was a go.

It took them awhile to get things all set up, but eventually it was accomplished, and a sign at the door to the pool proclaimed ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURTLE!!!’ in, of course, green and gold glitter.

[Amber totally modded with permission, up way early for SP. Annnnnd please wait for the OCD is uuuup! The email that sent out invitations is here.

"Which is actually kind of depressing, that no one's come up with a real solution yet," Dinah said. "Although I guess making sure no one's starving or exploited is at least a start."

"And I think conflict's a fact of life," he said, shrugging. "Little or big, no one's ever going to agree and one of the first reactions to it is to take up arms."

"But if you can keep it smaller-scale, fewer people get hurt," Dinah argued, then turned red again, remembering the fight she'd just had with Leto. "In theory, anyway."

"No, I agree," he said and smiled easily at her. "It's what you want but it's hard to actually get it that way. Lots of factors."

Dinah beamed at him, a little relieved he wasn't offended, and kinda thrilled he was as nice as he was cute. It was one thing to crush on a neighbor, but it helped to not feel stupid for it when the guy turned out to be really cool. "Lots of them. Crime and pollution and national pride and such. My friend Priestly has a lot of theories on all this. Mostly I just like listening to him talk about it."

"I don't think I've met Priestly yet," Lee said, trying to recall. "But hey, if he's someone who thinks about things like this, can't be a bad guy to know. But yeah, lots of things to think about. Absence of one of those things doesn't mean all conflicts start. And while taking away the environmental triggers might help, still hard to control for individual attitudes."

And did she mention smart? "Yeah, personalities always enter into it." Dinah might be rolling her eyes at a couple people she knows right here. "You kind of sound like you want to get into politics, maybe. Or diplomacy?"

"I don't know if I'm rushing to do that but it's an interest," he said, nodding. "It kind of ties into being the son of a military man. Back where I'm from, military and government closely tie into each other. They're not interchangeable but pretty close. My father was involved in a lot of that stuff."

"It's kind of the same here, sometimes. Or at least, easier to get elected if you have a military background. People take you seriously." Dinah paused, considering that. "Would you want to join any of Earth's military, though? Or would that be, I don't know. Too much like leaving Caprica behind?"

"It might actually be a little too...slow for me, if that makes sense," he said. "I'm used to space travel and almost everything here is flying in atmosphere. I'd feel kind of out of place."

"No, it does make sense. I couldn't go back to the 1970's, or whever the heck Merlin's from, and expect to enjoy it too much," Dinah said. "Especially if I could drive anything besides a car." She grinned a little. "If you need help with the darts, just yell across the hall. Or maybe my kitten can pick out the acceptance letter you should go with from a hat or something."

"Well, now that I know who's over there, I think I might give that a try," he said and smiled. "I've got a lot of darts going. Might get confusing. Or put a lot of wholes in my wall."
