Main Campfire, Friday Evening
Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.
There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

...all right, so perhaps she glared at the food tables a few times, but otherwise, it was pretty much normal.

"If you like. It's not a rose, is it?"

moddableflowers." She held the basket out for Fiona to look through. "Please, help yourself."Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"Whichever one you like," she said since she didn't have any favorite, "other than rose.
"Why are you giving out flowers?"
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"It's part of the tradition of Beltane," she replied, rummaging through the basket a bit. "People pass out flowers to those they ... would like to be friends with."
Actually, it was a bit more to it than that, but she didn't want to offend the girl.
"How about," she pulled out a daisy, "this one?"
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"It's a perfectly nice one, thank you," she said, not quite sure how to take the whole thing.
"What exactly is Beltane, then?"
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"In older days, people used to worship the seasons. To celebrate the return of spring, a festival was held once the last of the frost had lifted. Back then, many people viewed winter as the season of death, so accordingly, spring became the season of new life. The maypole," she pointed at it, "was actually, uhm, a symbol of fertility."
"Though nowdays, it's celebrated more as a tradition than anything else," she added quickly.
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"...so that's why someone thought it looked phallic? It's intentional?"
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"Yes."

"That seems just a bit uneven."

Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"I guess that works."
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"You have nothing like it back at your home?"
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
Holidays, rituals, anything like that.

Not unless Alison or one of the girls had gotten their way in one of their numerous schemes. Then they would brag all about it. And Eleanor usually got it rubbed in her face.
Great celebrating, yes?
Re: Mingle by the Bonfire!
"You're from England?" she guessed from the accent.
