Main Campfire, Friday Evening

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

"Sure," Effy replied easily, turning her stick slowly. "Might not recommend it..."

Well, not unless you were into eating something that was essentially carbon. But the point was you could, and it probably wouldn't kill you.

"So just burning for the visual fun, then," he said, watching her turn the stick.

"I figured it was better than sitting here doing nothing," she said, glancing away from her burning food towards Griff with a smirk. "Or just watching people." Because sometimes, the people being stared at found that creepy.

"Staring does earn some looks. 'Course it all depends on if you're wanting attention or not." It was difficult to tell.

"And that depends on who the attention is from," Effy said. "Attention from some people is more fun than attention from others."

She was a curious girl. "So whose attention are you looking for?"

"At the moment?" she shrugged. "No one in particular. But anyone who could make this party a real party would be nice."

Because as far as Effy was concerned, wine and marshmallows, did not a party make. More the rave-going sort of girl.

"What's a real party?" Griff had never been to one. Oh the life of a kid in hiding.

"The sort that has music with a beat you can get lost in," Effy replied. "Bright lights in a dark place. Drinking, dancing..."

This? Did not qualify in her book.

Griff looked around. "Yeah, this isn't that. 'S closer to a formal tea, really."

Effy wrinkled her nose. Formality and tea was definitely not her thing.

"Can't see this island with that kind of party," she said. It was rather too small and cutesy for that.

"They have aliens. I don't think tea's out of the question." He'd prefer serious quantities of coffee, but that wasn't the point.

Effy had been consciously ignoring the oddities. It worked very well for her more logical, less emotional brain.

"Tea I expect," she clarified. "Big parties, I don't."

"Ah! So this is like a non-party, then."
