Main Campfire, Friday Evening

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

"We could..." Because Merlin's coordination was the best around.

"Well, if anyone does get hurt, I am a healer."

Way to be confident in the ability of your classmates to jump over things, Ronan.

Jump over fire when drinking.

There was a difference.

"You are?"

Ronan nodded. "Well, more general than that, I suppose; I'm a wizard, is all. But I work in the clinic on Sundays, and I've become rather a fair hand at healing work, yeah."

"Could you teach anyone how to heal like that?" Merlin asked, thinking that over.

"... Probably not?" Ronan tried. "My style of wizardry is pretty specific, I haven't seen anyone else here with anything like it. Some of the ideas might work, though."

"I was apprenticing with the Court Physician before coming here, I might be able to pick up the less magical parts at least."

Ronan considered that. "I... don't really have any less-magical parts of it," he admitted, a bit sheepishly. "I mean, I could talk anatomy with you? Or some of the more modern advances? There's lots I could help you research. And I'd be more than happy to talk about exactly how it is my spells work."

"That might help," Merlin admitted. "At least, so Gaius doesn't yell for neglecting my studies."

"Gaius is the Court Physician, then?" Ronan asked. "Did he set you anything in particular to learn, or is it more just, 'learn everything you can about healing'?"

"More just not to let what he has taught me fall out of my overly large ears."

Ronan gave Merlin an appraising look. "I don't think they're so overly large," he said. "Besides, you know what they say of a man with big ears."

Merlin stared. Oh, someone had said this one before. "Big heart?"

"... Yes, Merlin. A big heart."

Or, y'know. Perhaps some other organ.

It's what Jenny had said! Merlin couldn't help but get the feeling that there was something that was wanting to eat him alive.

"I heard that one before," He ventured.

Ronan's grin grew wider, and he leaned over and whispered in Merlin's ear. "It's actually," he began, before getting far too quiet for even any nearby squirrels to hear.

"So now you know what they're talking about if anyone says it again," Ronan finished, speaking at a normal volume as he pulled away.

Merlin's eyes could not get any larger. He was trying to respond to that. Really he was!

Words... just weren't happening.

"Anyway, is it true?" Ronan asked. Yes, he knew that he'd pretty much already broken Merlin's brain, but he couldn't resist. "Not that it matters overmuch; I'm just too curious for my own good."

Merlin opened and closed his mouth a few times before finally, "I should check on the fire!"

Flee, Merlin. Flee like the wind.
