Main Campfire, Friday Evening

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

When she put it like that...

Fiona's face scrunched up.

"I'd think it would make more sense to have men dance around it then," she said with a quick shake of her head.

"After all, if they're so happy about it, they can celebrate it."

"You're supposed to be fruitful on Beltane, to ensure a good harvest," Morgana explained. "Men dancing around the pole wouldn't get everyone into the right mindset."

She'd been unaware of that.

All these things she didn't know about, all these rituals. All this culture and the stories-- for all that she could name a dozen rare blood diseases off the top of her head or speak half a dozen languages without trouble, she perpetually felt that she knew nothing here. It was equally magnificent and frustrating all at once.

"Is this a holiday where you come from or is it just... common knowledge?"

"The day is celebrated where I come from, but from what I've seen of this place so far, I wouldn't dare presume that everyone knows about it," Morgana said. "Too many people from too many different places."

That made her feel a little bit better.

"Fiona," she said, holding out her hand for a shake. It came a bit like it'd been springloaded, but it was still a friendly gesture.

"Morgana," she replied, taking her hand politely. "I'm glad you decided to come, even if the holiday is unfamiliar. It feels a bit like getting to share some of home."

"I like sitting at the fires. They let me meet people," she said with a shrug.

"That's something of a new experience. Where's home?"

"Home is Camelot," Morgana said with a fond tone. "If you meet a gentleman named Arthur, he is from the same place, as is his servant Merlin, who's the one who set all of this up."

Her eyes went a little flat at the mention of Arthur but she had nothing against Merlin. She just hadn't met him yet.

"Poor Merlin," was all she said. Morgana could take from it what she liked.
